My roommate was complaining because the way that his desk was setup he had to have his tower sitting on the floor & his computer runs slower down there. He eventually just put a couple of books under it (putting it a whopping 1" off the floor), and says it runs faster now. I tried to explain to him how there is NO reason for that making ANY sense, but he insisted it was running faster. He claimed it was because he had a gateway, and all gateways do that.

Just thought you guys would find that somewhat amusing.

Yeah, I wonder if Dell's do the same thing ;)

Maybe that's why my tbird@1.5ghz seems so fast, because I'm on the 3rd floor & have it sitting on my desk.

Wow...what a break through. Somebody should report that to amd or intel.

That's good stuff though.

I would be very interested in knowing what he bases his reasoning for this on.

lol :) that explains why 750 is stable on the floor but not the desk - its actually only doing 700 :D it couldn't possibly have anythign to do with thermodynamics / temp gradients ;)

goldfish - i'm sure you offended someone ;)

<< Me too, so I asked:

"I don't know, but you can feel the difference".
>>

Tell him to benchmark it.
Most likely he feels a difference because he wants to feel a difference. He's convinced himself there has to be a difference, and so he's noticing what isnt really there.

hehehe this is pretty funny.
Now tell him to put one end of an extension cord in his mouth and plug the other end into an AC-outlet. It'll make him smarter :)

How about if we switch the switch on the power supply to 230v, that should 2x the speed of his computer, right?

I beat your friend; my mid-tower is on wheels (a whole 2" off the floor) and I must say that it does run faster especially when I move it from one end of the room to the other.
