Jury Duty - Finally Over

Last week I was called in on Tuesday, had to come back on Wed. to finish jury selection which is when I got on the panel. This criminal trial lasted from Thursday until today.

There was no evidence whatsoever that the defendant commited the crime he was accused of. The alleged victim, a 8 year old child, admitted to her mother and several others including her teacher that she lied.

It's hard to explain everything, so I'll just say that all jurors were completely unanimous in their decision within about 15 minutes of deliberation. It really was that clear to us, the evidence clearly supported this (and lack thereof).

Yes the husband beats his wife and are seperated now, they have a pending family court case about this. However that was not what this case was about. He was accused of lewd and lascivious acts toward his daughter.

cliffs: Jury duty was a waste of time due to all of these people lying on the stand. So many inconsistencies on both sides it was ridiculous.
However there was enough evidence for the entire jury to easily find the defendant not guilty.

It was somewhat interesting though, it just took too long. We took too many breaks, two hour lunches etc. There other jurors were cool though, 50/50 male/female of varying age.

So that's it, I think everyone should do it once just because people are so ignorant about the whole process.

edit:
I forgot to mention, the Defense Attorney sounded like Huel Howser, and the Detective looks like Carlos from Desperate Housewives. :p

Certainly that was a key point the prosecution brought up, however it could never be substantiated. Also there was no evidence of anything happening, not even medical. Many things should have been quite different if it was all true. There was just no way he could have been convicted.

I was on a jury for a auto accident. It was pretty much a joke and it's clear to me that most civil cases are an utter waste of judicial resources.

and nothing will come out of it. it seems like standard practice now in a divorce is to blame the other of child mollestation or such.

That?s just wrong there needs to be a law stating that if parent give a child hints or make a child tell such a story they should be put in jail for no less then 10 years. The child custody will also be taken away and given to the accused parent. Someone like that will only cause damage to the child.
