Jury awards a woman <Dr Evil> 1 beeellion dollars...almost

Message to Ford: appeal it until she's dead.

Hahaha.

There is no way she lost that much in earnings, not will it cost that much to care for her.
They should have at most paid for her cost of care and loss of earnings.

This is at most, they shouldn't have to pay anything, but there should be an investigations into Ford practice.

that's bs....

"Buell-Wilson, a 49-year-old mother of two, offered to knock $100 million off the damage award if Ford would fix the design problems in the Explorer"

"The lawsuit involved design issues found on all Explorers made through 2001, Schoville said."

OMFG what did the jury decide Ford did wrong?!

During a news conference after the verdict, Buell-Wilson, a 49-year-old mother of two, offered to knock $100 million off the damage award if Ford would fix the design problems in the Explorer that left her permanently paralyzed from the waist down.

WTF does she want them to do, change the laws of physics? Or maybe line the bottom of it with 3000 pounds of lead to make it a little harder to flip? How altruistic of her to offer $100 million of $369 million that she doesn't even deserve.

"This is an important message because there are a lot of people out there that are driving these vehicles that don't have, like Mrs. Wilson, any clue of what could happen," Schoville said.

Yeah there are a lot of clueless people out there. Maybe they should take a freaking high school physics class. How can you drive an SUV and not notice it's top-heavy?

And we wonder yet again why everyone hates the legal system. Thanks to the jury in this case, everyone will be paying an extra grand for a Ford in the near future.

Ford will appeal and get the settlement drastically reduced, but where o where did they find the brainiacs on this jury pool?

I'd like to see any SUV not flip if you are going at Interstate speeds and then yank the wheel hard....of course world peace and a winning lottery ticket for all the nations peoples would be nice as well... 😛

What a load of Fvcking crock.

You can roll any car if you don't know how to drive, some are just easier than others.

Damn it's people like that I want to punch in the mouth :|

I just noticed that too. Wonder if she discounted them $100 million?

I don't think it would cost Ford 100 million dollars to send out letters to Explorer owners telling them to drive with common sense, allow proper braking distance in front of you, and don't yank the steering wheel going full speed

Yeah, I don't like how it's done at all.. a few centuries ago "a jury of peers" meant 12 people with brains... now it means whatever crackheads they pull in off the street. The mentality seems to be "sure, give him xxx million, why not? what do I care? maybe I'll get some of it for being so nice to him. I can buy a lot of crack with that" in cases like this. The worst part about things like this is the rocket scientists who blame products for their own mistakes and/or bad luck often attract mates with the money they basically stole, and those Einstein genes get passed on more than they would have under ordinary circumstances, making for a dismal-looking future.

my point was that the issue was with 2001 explorers and before. evidently the problem was fixed in 2002, so her "offer" for them to fix the problem is stupid because they already have.

Of course if she'd dumped hot coffee on her lap before rolling the SUV and sued McDonalds we'd all be patting her on the back right now.

why do you say that?

the person that sued mcd's for that is a greedy moron if you ask me.

I was surprised anyone on here thought that coffee woman deserved the millions she got, thats why I said that. This really doesn't strike me any different.

dmcowen674: all cars are dangerous, not just SUVs. I don't like SUVs either but then again I'm also smart enough to know a top heavy vehicle, or any vehicle going to fast will roll over pretty easy.

Where is Ness??

Schoville said Ford declined to follow its engineers' suggestions to widen the Explorer's wheel track or to lower its center of gravity -- costly changes that would make the vehicle more stable. Concern about costs also kept Ford from sufficiently reinforcing the Explorer's roof to protect passengers in a vehicle "they know is going to roll over," he said.

the quote above is from the article linked in the OP. let's ask a real question. which car is the above statement NOT a true statement for??

the ONLY way to completely prevent the possiblity of a roll over. . . Oh wait a minute there IS NOT FVCKING way.

keep widening the track and lowering the center of gravity until we are driving pancake shaped vehicles that take up 3 car lanes. ya, that's the ticket.

I am Happy Ford got nailed. GM and Dodge should have to pay simply because they produce the Mamoth SUV's too.

Have you ever been on a jury?

Why do you ask that???

Seems like you're the type who would vote for this sort of award if you were, I'd assume that's why he asked. While I agree with your view on SUVs, this isn't the proper way to 'nail' automakers for them. And really, are they to blame or are the consumers who demand these dangerous vehicles in the first place? Maybe each is to a degree, but I'd say the consumer holds the lions share of the blame. At any rate, the most dangerous part of settlements like this and the McDonalds one are that they set a precedent. The more cases like this that are won, the easier it will be for future near Darwin award winners to cash in on their stupidity.

Well, one of the items in the article was how they should have reinforced the roof such that it won't collapse during a rollover. A basic roll cage might not be a bad idea...

Anyway, I don't agree with the award. Either her or whatever caused her to swerve should be 90% at fault.
