<< Apparently, the jury was there and heard the evidence, you did not. Did it ever occur to you the jury was correct? >>
Of course, but I really, really doubt it. This would have been a slam-dunk had our brilliant soon-to-be-former-District Attorney not chosen to use dirtbags like Cuffy and Skyers as the star witnesses. Anywho...more from the jury.
<< Jurors said they opted to acquit the two men either because they didn't believe prosecution witnesses Patrick Cuffy and Paul Skyers -- or there wasn't enough evidence beyond that to satisfy their reasonable doubts.
"There needed to be more. There needed to be more physical evidence. We needed more corroboration of the story. We needed more witnesses," said Gregory Heath, the only white man serving on the jury, which included nine black women and two black men.
Another juror, Bobby Dye said most jurors simply didn't believe Cuffy or Skyers. And beyond that there was scant evidence that could tie Walker or Ramsey to the crime.
"Some of the comments Cuffy made, he kind of dug a hole for himself," said Dye.
Walker and Ramsey's lawyers argued that Cuffy and Skyers invented a mastermind for the crime, former Sheriff Sidney Dorsey, and a triggerman, Melvin Walker, in order to satisfy the prosecution's demand for a deal. Several jurors said they found that theory highly plausible, though they split on whether they thought Dorsey was involved in the crime. >>
