The new shows of the Junkyard wars are on tonight. If you have never seen these they are worth a look. The premise is there are two teams of four people. They are given an assignment to build something out of the parts in a junkyard. It's a British show and I have enjoyed many of the episodes.

On tonight on TLC "The Learning Channel"
episodes tonight
Demolition
Bomber
Underwater Chariot

Demolition is a really cool episode.

The bomber one is pretty lame. IMHO, this episode makes the whole show look rigged. I mean come on, the guy finds a perfect spool of that lightweight aluminum stuff (forget the exact name) in the trunk of a car? The roll is probably more expensive than the car it was in! come on! ;)

I think the underwater chariot one looks really neat. Its the new episode of the night I believe. The clips from the commercials look good. Can't wait.

(edit: well at least I havent seen the underwater one, and I watched a good chunk of hours from the marathon from a short while ago)

Junkyard wars are on again tonight.
The demolition episode last week was pretty good. One team built a machine that looked like a dinosaur to destroy a brick wall. They almost won. :)

Tonights episodes
"Wind Mill"
"Missile Launcher"
"Bridging Machine"

The Missile Launcher looks interesting. I like things that go boom.

Yep
metal backed mylar, the perfect material for a balloon, expensive as hell and hard to find and they find a whole roll?
Something stinks. .
Other than that great show

Desy, the show is based in a manufactured junkyard, if the producers seed it with a few extra items it does not take away from the enjoyment of the show to me. The skill and creativity of the teams in producing their machines in one day is the best part of the show.

I don't mind when they ouright tell you that they are supplying the helium or the explosive for the canons but to "pretend" it was actually in a junkyard which is the premise of the show kinda bothers me, but not so much I won't continue to watch:cool:

That's one of the few really different innovative shows on TV these days.... it's a great show for the whole family! It's a great way to let kids enjoy watching fun stuff while learning how things work, and it's just plain fun :)

They may be supplying the things, but it's up to the teams to realize that the parts kick ass and would be helpful to their project. All shows are somewhat staged, at least this one has cool mechanical parts and (sometimes) destruction. Fine by me.

New junkyard shows on tonight.

"Steam Powered Car"
"Giant Mower"

I like the missile launcer last week. The air powered cannon suprised me with how well it worked.

Most people realize there are things planted there, but It doesnt detract from the quality of the show, the most useful tools are the team member's brains, bottom line, I think It is a great show, one of the few worth watching nowadays.

Junkyard wars on again tonight. It looks like it an American series now.
TLC junkyard wars

Junkyard Wars January 2001 Episode Guide
Season Four: All-American Teams!

FIRST-ROUND MATCHES

HOT RODS
Chicago Fire Vs. Texas Scrap Daddies
Jan. 3, 2001 9 p.m. and midnight ET/PT

The teams embark on a 10-hour build of two completely different vehicles. One team builds a hot rod with a big, heavy engine and the other designs a car with a light body and less powerful engine. George and Cathy get in on the shoptalk to see why the teams went the way they did and interview expert and competition judge Pat Foster, a veteran drag racer. The next day, the teams have three chances to see who can get the best possible time.

BALLISTIC MISSILES
The Young Guns Vs. Three Rusty Juveniles
Jan. 3, 2001 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. ET/PT

The teams take on a growing American pastime, Punkin' Chuckin', in which they must build a machine to hurl an unsuspecting pumpkin at their opponents' castle 50 yards away. And no motors are allowed, so they have to figure out how to store up muscle power to launch their produce projectiles. One team opts to build an air-powered cannon, the other a medieval trebuchet, sort of a sling-type catapult thing.

They're going to start using Americans? That blows. Brits are much more humourous.

Yeah, having Americans does suck. I'll miss hearing the word "bodging" every 2 seconds. :)

Dammit! Now I've got the stupid jingle stuck in my head. "Junk-yard wars! Ding dong ding!" Dammit!!!!

Yes, the Brits are great...but the new season is rumored to be filmed in California!! WOOHOO! For once I'm in the right place. Now if I could just get on the show...

Best line: "Yes, he's built a shed-load of those"
