Junk car removal

I managed to eek out another year with the Taurus. Just as I start getting ready to buy a brand new '09 Subaru Forester, my transmission goes (leaked all the fluid out over a week). The dealerships would only give me $200 trade-in but now I can't even drive it there.

My question is this: do you think I can find someone that'll pay me to take it off my hands (like a hundred bucks or so)? I don't even know what to search for on the internet - car junkers?

For a Taurus probable not. If it was a car that is more limited and/or had a lot of hard to find or costly parts then maybe.

Oh comeon, the tires on it only have 3k miles on them 🙂

There are donation places (tax deductible) but I probably won't itemize my taxes.

I see ad's around here paying $ 1000-2000 for junk cars...they are everywhere, on street posts etc. Not sure if it's a scam?

Part it out on craig's list. Put it up, let people take anything that won't keep it from rolling, and when it's gutted call a place that takes scrap cars and see if they'll give you anything for it. At the very least they'll take it for free.

I had a cherokee that was stolen and crashed. I got $1000 from it by selling different parts even with the whole front end smashed.

I got 200 bucks for my 93 a year and a half ago, and they came and picked it up. It had 150k on it. Motor and trans were still good (not sure how much longer on the motor tho, it was starting to act a little funny and oil consumption suddenly skyrocketed) but the suspension was all shot and it was pretty rusty.

This.

Or if you have some time / storage space, part it out as someone else said. Put the parts on ebay or a taurus forum. Not sure how profitable this would be though, given that it is an extremely common car and used parts are everywhere already.

What year / trim is it?

I don't have the parking space right now to part it out. I searched the internet and only found one place that'll pay for it but when I called them the guy sounded really sketchy.
