Didn't he try to kill himself a couple of years ago by driving off a cliff?

Wow, I can't believe somebody else knew about this. But yes, he drove his car off a "cliff" and it fell like 10-20 feet down a ravine. Supposedly he wasn't drunk nor high nor distracted. My friend told me he saw it and he kinda just drove right off... lol

RIP. I grew up in San Diego, moved away while in HS around 93. He was one of the players who led them back from being a laughingstock to SB contenders.

Yeah, he had been arrested for domestic abuse or something, and later got in his SUV and drove off a cliff. This was a couple of years ago.

Apparently he shot himself in the chest, so his brain is intact...I'm sure whoever the NFL contracts to study these things will have plenty to look at.

What the hell? Who shoots themselves in the chest to commit suicide? Accidental maybe?

gaaah no :'(. I became a chargers fan because of the guy (growing up in LA, I had a huge contempt for both LA times).

Sigh, this sucks. RIP. He did so many great things for the local community too. baaaah :'(

Shit that's horrible...I mean, almost honorable in an odd way, donating his intact brain to research, but at the expense of possibly dying a slow painful death.

ugh.

He probably figured "Well, I'm miserable, but maybe I can help prevent this from happening to future football players"

WTF? Who thinks of killing themselves by shooting in the CHEST?!?

From a TMZ report on the Junior Seau story:

Back in 2011, former NFL star Dave Duerson shot himself in the chest ... and explained in his suicide note that he wanted his brain donated to a research center because he believed the blows he took to the head during his football career caused him to become mentally impaired.

It's been suggested that Junior did the same thing...for the same reasons.

Wow, if true that is highly commendable. I have no doubt that Seau had to have some CTE after some of the licks he'd put on guys. Also beating up his g/f was another surprise, noone expected that.
