That is my wife's TIAA-CREF portfolio that she started almost 20 years ago. I tell you, it is not bad since our contributions to that are only $20K or so, the bulk came from smart people who manage the fund. They do a hell of job I think. Yes, I have 2 degrees but they are useless. I am going back to school in the Fall as a matter of fact. That is something that I think most of us will have to do if we wish to stay ahead of the game.

Like I said, I wish I could get my hands on some of that cash right now as times have been pretty sh!tty here in SE Michigan with no end in sight. But it is probably a good thing that we can't touch it. By the time we retire should we live that long, it will be worth 10X that I am hoping :)

Live in Michigan for one year and tell me the same thing. Good news is good news, spinning into something that it is not is dishonest.
I live in Michigan. Have been here since 1998, with a few exceptions like when I spent some time back in Ohio and when I was out of state on Military duty. Things are pretty decent for me and my friends. And we're on the east side of the state, the worst part of all. My g/f just got a $5k a year promotion, with better benefits. I was laid off in september, and was already working at a better paying job within 5 weeks. It just takes a little ambition. Granted this is still the worst state in the country as far as job growth, If I can manage here, I'm pretty confident I can manage anywhere.

Ain't that the truth. Happy to hear things are still going well for you.
