here are the july hardware numbers

Nintendo DS: 538,900 (down from 766,500)
Nintendo Wii: 252,500 (down from 361,700)
Xbox 360: 202,900 (down from 240,600)
PlayStation Portable: 122,800 (down from 163,500)
PlayStation 3: 121,800 (down from 164,700)
PlayStation 2: 108,000 (down from 152,700)

here's the software stuff

1. Wii Sports Resort (w/ Wii Motion Plus) - WII - Nintendo - 508K
2. NCAA Football 10 - 360 - EA - 377K
3. NCAA Football 10 - PS3 - EA - 237K
4. Wii Fit (w/ Balance Board) - WII - Nintendo - 164K
5. Mario Kart (w/ Wheel) - WII - Nintendo - 157K
6. Mario Kart DS - NDS - Nintendo - 132K
7. Pokemon Platinum Version - NDS - Nintendo - 116K
8. Fight Night Round 4 - 360 - EA - 116K
9. New Super Mario Bros. - NDS - Nintendo - 102K
10. EA Sports Active - WII - EA - 97K

Hardware-wise it looks like the 360 Arcade is nipping at Nintendo's wii, which must be painful. Too bad the 360 "pricedrop!" (really a HD sizeup) won't happen until the end of the month.

Will there be a PS3 fat fire sale next week? We'll see!

August numbers should be a little less boring and predictable 🙂

I think we're all waiting to see if _you_ are part of those post-price-drop 360 numbers. No one's forgotten your constant talk about waiting for Jasper, and then you NOT buying it after that, citing waiting for the price drop or whatever. No one likes a talker, man. 🙂

In this economy, it is well past time for the three home consoles to get a price drop and the sales reflect that. I still think that the 360 should drop down to $250 to compete better with the PS3 price cut/slim introduction. The Wii should drop down to $200 too.

DSi sales are exceeding DS sales through the same time period. Mario Kart is still one of the best possible games you can get for the DS/DSi.

I have one last excuse to wait, since I want a Jasper elite and most (all?) Elites on shelves now are Falcon 🙂

I've already picked up a half-dozen $10 games like Earth Defense Force, Crackdown and Operation Darkness so I will be getting a 360 this year.

I wonder if a 3rd party game will lead the group for a Nintendo platform. For as many systems out there, you would think some 3rd party games on the Wii would crack the top 3.

It's a fun game. Also, remember the DS demographic. A substantial percentage of DS owners (kids) don't go out and buy a new game as soon as it releases. I'm thinking about the kids who have to save up for months or wait for a birthday present to get the game they want.

That and it seems like a right of passage for every kid to get a DS some time between their 5th and 7th birthdays now.

hey hey hey, I got a DS for my 33th birthday. I also bought Mario Kart earlier this year, simply because it was the game to get (?) Kind of like "having" to buy Halo when you get an xbox.
