Just wanted to post a chart that displays what Intel will be doing on July 22nd.

This chart was compiled by HKEPC Hardware in May of 2007

E6750 will be the sweet spot and the mass-seller, IMHO.
It's already returning great reviews from sites that have received test samples.

Well according to a couple reviews i have read on this newegg and all the other computer stores could jack up the price depending on how much a demand there is for them. We will also not notice the price cuts until they sell all of there old stock that they bought for full price and after they sell all of that they will then list the price cutted (lol) price.

For $83 more, anyone thinking of getting the E6750 should just go for the Q6600.

The Q6600 at $266 is going to sell like hotcakes.

personally im not getting the quad core until very far in the future when they have a solid stepping and are in 45nm architecture since ive been hearing that 4 cores in the 65nm process are very hard to cool using conventional coolers these days unless your going watercooling. Plus overclocking a E series core 2 duo compared to a quad core is like night and day.

QC does run hotter compared to DC, but you can still easily get 3GHz+ out of a C2Q.

I agree completely.

By the time I'm ready for Quads, the Core 2 Ocho will be all the rage. :)

With a C2D at 3.5Ghz, air cooled - you're just being greedy if you still think you need a quadcore system to open that spreadsheet....... heh heh.

I really want to upgrade to the q6600, but with the quad penryn coming out at the end of this year I think I might just wait and buy one of those =\

If the 6750 is going to be ~180, will the 6420 be dropping in price, as well?

The E400 series get better and better IMO. Better value, still the same low FSB (good for overclocking) and increasing multis.

Anyone else notice that the E4400's will be running at 2.0GJz?

EDIT:

uh, why are they releasing the e6540 and e6550? why not just the e6550?

I agree as well. For gamers, you get much better mileage out of OCing C2D rather than the Q6600. The E6750 will likely be the most popular of the newest CPUs.

So how fast is a GJz compared to a GHz?

It looks like the e6550 has TXT enabled while the e6540 doesn't. But I agree for the same price, and same speed it just seems dumb to me.

The Q6600 vs. E6850 debate is stupid, it should be against the E6750 because the extra money isn't worth it for a small speed bump. The question is if the extra two cores are worth $80 dollars and some overclcoking potential.

It depends on how you want to keep the processor, if you'll have it for 2 years, the Q6600 is much, much better, by then games will take advantage of it.

Also, the Q6600 will have worse overclocks for two reasons, one being the extra cores, the other being the older stepping. Only XX50 chips get the new G0 stepping, at least until current shipments run out.

Actually, the quads get G0 revision (not stepping) as well.

http://www.tankguys.biz/produc...9_181&products_id=1712

Another issue with the 6750 vs. 6850 is the 8x vs 9x multiplier.

These babies are overclocking to 3.7 to 4.0 (8 x 463 and 8 x 500) on air.

Higher multiplier will put less strain on a motherboard due to lower required FSB.

and for those that bench, 9x and higher is absolutely required.

I for one will get a 6850 then wait for quadcore penryn (yorksfield) even if the 6850 is the same price as Q6600 UNLESS the Q6600 G0 overclock like mad! :D

Im giong to do the exact same thing. Only thing i have to find out is how good the Q6600 G0 will be.

How would one know the revision on a cpu when you buy one? I would hate to order one and get some of the old inventory.

I don't think the extra multi is worth $80 unless you have water cooling. The chips in the reviews, the ones that got to 3.7GHz on air, are Intel samples, don't expect that from yours.

Besides, you could spend that $80 on a better motherboard and ram and the FSB won't limit you anymore, but the system will bench better with more bandwidth.

but i don't need a new motherboard or ram :)

and yes, i have water cooling, air cooling, and phase change so... that 9x is gonna help me out... :)

I'm thinking the dualcores are better for overclocking at this time. The Q6700 isnt a bad chip its just that it wont get as high fsb as some of the dualcores. Now when Penryn comes out thats when the quads are going to really start to shine. New mobos will be out then too to help them shine. And thats a key thing to remember IMHO.

Yes, but what if it's a REALLY BIG spreadsheet that you need to open. And you're running skype. And bf2. With doom 4 in the background. And you're on aol instant messenger. I guess you could use the other 3 cores for folding@home...
