I don't understand why Barr would do something so incredibly stupid. The report was to be handed over to the house, why lie about it's contents?
yeah, I wonder....
But he did do the exact same thing, back during the Iran Contra scandal, iirc. --wrote a rather dubious opinion on the nature of illegally trading arms with out enemies (or something like that--lol I forget the details), and made that public before any official decisions could be made during those hearings. He provided a defense argument based on what he then knew to be specifically false claims, that were later revealed to be absolutely false, but he did it anyway because he knew that the only story that "matters" is the first one. The people will simply forget or just not care that he was intentionally lying in order to defend illegal activity all along...because he got away with it.
It's weird how humans work.
But he did that. And he did the exact same thing with the Mueller report. I mean, just look at the interpretation from the GOP and all of their supporters: they believe an entirely different conclusion about the Mueller report from what it specifically and unambiguously claimed, all because Barr intentionally misconstrued it once ahead of release, then again in an unprecedented press conference prior to the "redacted" release. He did this twice. Specifically, and strategically.
He knows he was lying about it. He knows that the Mueller report very specifically condemned Trump with up to 10 counts of obstruction that deserve serious investigation and likely prosecution.
He knew that. Trump knew that. All of the ghouls in the administration knew that. But they also knew that their supporters wouldn't give a fuck as long as they got the lie that made them feel most comfortable, first.
