Looks like throwing the baby with the bath water... Why did the county sell the house instead of just selling, say, a chair or some other item in the house for $6.30 to pay what she owes?

Because those other things aren't deeded property, and they have no legal right to do that.

Does this mean we're going to be working on Cliven Bundy's million dollar tax bill next?

So to those of you who think this is wrong:

1) How do you propose the government collect from an uncooperative person

With due process. That includes proper notification and time given to resolve disputes.
2) How much is enough before its OK to foreclose?
That's not really the issue at hand. The small amount simply assures the absurdity of what occurred. That she is most likely willing to pay it. That her lender, not her, broke good faith and resolved to ruin the agreement and her home.

It is when it's done so that an investor who already owns 20 houses in the county can buy it for cheap. Per court documents the buyer is S.P. Lewis and a search of the county database under that name shows the foreclosure (search at link below for name "BATTISTI,ANTHONY" and select record for 118 Rosewood Dr") and you can find the property records associated with buyer via search term "S.P. Lewis".

Here's the pertinent information from the court documents. Certainly seems to me like the relevant authorities made no serious efforts to notify her before the sale or help her at any stage of the process. It seems relatively clear to me that there was either active collusion to help the property investor in the area who bought her house, or that they passively didn't interfere with the process allowing him to profit from it.

Yep, some grade A bullshit here.

I bet this Judge gets a kickback of money somewhere on this too.

I hope this gets escalated to higher courts and overturned as this woman able to sue the asses off those that set this blatant stealing of her house up.

And of course shame and disgust to those ilk on here that support the stealing of the house from under this woman.

Karma is a Bitch.

how little should it go? 10 cents? 1 penny?

property taxes need to be outlawed, paying rent for my land to the king is bullshit and for the king to come in and take somebodys land for 6 bucks is criminal.

US citizen owes $6: forclose the mother fucker.

US corporation borrows billions, dodges taxes and sucks on subsidies: it's OK - business as usual, no need for the government to intervene, other than increasing the tax breaks and subsidies.

Really???? Lets not blame the politicians and the government who created and hands out those subsidies right? Nevermind the fact that every corporation that you are railing against only exist because government created the act of incorporation itself.

It's interesting to me how when it comes to someone forgetting they are concealed carrying a firearm it's all "the law must be applied exactly and he's got to pay the price" but when it comes to a little old lady and her taxes people aren't nearly so authoritarian. :colbert:
