All they have to do is sign up for Obamacare. Why does the left still behave like we don't have a health care system? It's in place and by every metric the government shares with us it's a huge success. They have nothing to be concerned about regarding health care. Sign up and they're covered.

I've seen new owners of businesses get out from under existing union contracts by piling debt on the business from related concerns and then claiming hardship via bankruptcy. As well, I've seen long time established business owners wishing to rid themselves of unions their employees are members of "cook the company books" via the use of very artful accountants and then claiming financial hardships to drive the unions out. Immediately after re-organizing from the purge, voila! the accountants cover up the holes they created and business resumes sans union representation with much much cheaper wage/benefits to pay out on.

The auto industry was headed for a big purge of the unions during the financial collapse of the Bush era, but the Obama administration stepped in just in time to save the jobs of that industry and the unions that represented them. They're doing just fine now.

Agreed, health care should be covered by the government, not the employer.

The unions still took a huge hit. they are nowhere as strong (or well paid) as they were.

This. I think medical coverage is way too expensive for businesses to provide for their employees. Which is why I think we need to all drop our ignorant objections to state medical care.

No thank you, my company provided insurance coverage/out of pocket costs are far better than anything offered through the ACA.

Bullshit, lift up the hood of any new supposedly made in America cars/trucks and you will see many made in China parts, today's UAW is just another feel good farce who's days are numbered one auto part at a time,

compared to the UAW that would go on strike if they found a Japanese plug in any of the vehicles 20 years ago
Saturn workers may strike GM

FLINT, Mich., July 17 -- The labor troubles at General Motors Corp. are growing as the automaker's Saturn workers in Tennessee will vote Sunday on whether to give union leaders permission to call a strike.

Even though the Saturn workers have long been portrayed as a model of union-management cooperation because of their unconventional UAW contract, a dispute arose with GM over worker bonuses. The dispute has been exacerbated by GM's use of Japanese spark plugs in Saturn engines since one of the two Flint strikes cut off the supply of GM plugs last month.

And at GM's engine plant in Romulus, outside Detroit, workers disrupted production Wednesday to protest the use of the Japanese NGK plugs there. The Romulus plant makes engines for GM's new generation of full-size pickups.

"I think it's a total disservice to all of America for General Motors to be using Japanese spark plugs in their products," UAW Vice President Richard Shoemaker said. "Again, I think it lends validity to what we've been saying all along, that they have an 'America last' strategy."

The strikes, which began June 5, have cost the world's No. 1 automaker at least $1.2 billion. They have idled 25 assembly plants and more than 100 parts plants across North America, as well as nearly 179,000 workers.

$25-30 an hour is well above what a card dealer typically makes around here.
Where do you live? NJ is a very expensive state to live in. You need to make $50k a year to live a modest middle class lifestyle. You could pay $8k a year in property taxes. Homes in my area average $300k.
