I need feedback and none of my friends/loved ones will be inside my apartment for weeks. 😛

following my New Year's Eve drama (wherein one of my friends came over, used every dish in my kitchen to make poutine, and then refused to clean up after herself), I decided that I need a dishwasher. spoke to my landlady and she's on-board if we split the cost (since I'm the one who wants it, but it will stay in the apartment after I move out).

the problem is that putting in a dishwasher means losing a cabinet, and my kitchen was tight on cabinet space as it is... thus beginning my week-long project to reorganize my kitchen. this metal shelving unit was a godsend for getting my small appliance out of the cabinet. also made use of some Ikea purchases to free up counter space.

^ I'm kinda tempted to chuck that steamer in the garbage... it was given to me as a gift and I don't think I've used it in 4 years.

the metal pipes in back of there are for a washer/dryer hookup if I so desired, but there's not much point since there's a laundry room in the basement of this 2-family house.

I have a second one (and more spices in a cabinet), but I've been lazy about screwing it in.
 
Pretty organized but I prefer a close jar for spatula and spoons etc. I like the way you have the spices. The most important thing is what works best for you.
 
Very organized, but the knife rack makes me feel weird. My family has always kept them in drawers.
 
Most importantly, do you have room for a hot plate and a microwave oven?

Looks good! Only thing that would make me nervous is the knives being so close to the door, that is an outside door right? That's giving a potential house invader a pretty wide weapon choice right upon entry. How convenient. 😛

Then again I'm not any better, I have a knife block maybe 6 feet from my front door. I like the idea of using a big magnet to hold them though, that's pretty genius.
 
Wait, so I'm confused, are we installing the urinal or not? It requires cold water and a drain, and since its a kitchen, both are definitely there. My only suggestion is to not put it under the knife rack, just in case.

In our old house, we ditched an 18" cabinet to put in a dishwasher - even the narrow variety makes things a lot better. We cook a lot, and in our temp housing here, we don't have one and really miss it.

To me it looks like you have enough shelf space for kitchen essentials. Nice work.
 
I have 5 of those Target shelves at my business's storage room. They're fantastic. All black though. I don't like the chrome finish.
 
I like it. Large window with no screen, wide selection of human-stabbing utensils, drugs conveniently placed in spice bottles, New Jersey...
 
are those knives global? how do you like the handles? they always looked uncomfortable to me for some reason.

i like the easy access of shelving. i keep trying to get my friends to buy shelves...their kitchen is running out of room and that would make it loads easier to deal with.

there are options, just not options that I'd want to pay for when I'm only renting... my landlady gives me free reign on what I want to do to fix the place up if I'm willing to pay for it, but I'm not willing to pay to put up some kind of covering over it.

Wait, you're willing to split the cost of a dishwasher and installation ($500?) on money you'll never recoup, but not $50 on paint for those tiles?

I suspect that paint would look like shit... my only thought regarding the wall was either breaking them off and seeing what's underneath (opening up the possibility of having to do major construction) or putting up some kind of paneling over it.
 
Since I didn't see a George Foreman grill, I assume that you can cook! Looks great, bad place for the knives should you have an argument in the kitchen though.

Do a little research and you'd be surprised how nice ceramic tile could look painted. It's not like they don't go through the process when they are manufactured anyway albeit in a different manner.

Yeah, chances are if you pull those down the drywall is going to come down with it and you'll have a giant mess on your hands.

I suppose you could glue up some paneling or beadboard over it, but personally I hate that stuff. Another option would be using self stick vinyl flooring over it so long as tiles don't land on grout lines.
