Judge Mark L. Wolf -- Reagan appointee -- resigns?!?!

Here's the NYT news of recent hours, apparently not blocked with any pay-wall:

Federal Judge . . . . . Resigns

At first I was alarmed. Every time a good legislator fails to run again, or somehow gives up their office, I worry because the seat can be captured by the opposition.

And I always thought judges were replaced by the administration in power.

Apparently this is not so with Wolf's "resignation" as described in the article, and his seat will be occupied by a woman and judge appointed by Obama.

Just saw him a few minutes ago on MSNBC's Nicole Wallace Whitehouse Deadline.

He was "senior status". He retired from his full seat in '13 and was replaced by that Obama appointment. Senior status sticks around as long as they want and they can generally work as much as they want on what cases they want.

What luck that such things can happen. Otherwise expect Trump to find someone at Atascadero or Corcoran with a degree earned in the clink. He'll pardon them first.
