I live in El Paso and what is reported in the media is greatly exaggerated at times. This is the second safest big city(over 100,000 pop. I believe)in the country. Local historian Leon Metz has said bullets have been flying from Mexico to El Paso for hundreds of years and doesn't see why everyone is making such a big deal about it now.

Residents here are not living in fear and do not believe the violence will spread to the U.S.

Why? They are finding more and more mass graves all over northern part of Mexico, including Juarez. There have been several dozen hits by Zetas inside the state of Texas the past few years(a lot in the SA area). The Zeta's and Cartels are now using car bombs and IEDs.

Its a serious fucking problem that has spilled over the boarder in other places and will likely spill over the boarder(it does daily) in El Paso. The number of americans that go missing each year in the mexico boarder region is more than a handful, alot more, thats not even counting the ones that go missing while in the interior of Mexico. There is a reason why the State Department has a travel advisory for Mexico.

And legalizing pot will do nothing. Pot isn't a commidity of the Cartels, for the cartels, its cocaine, arms, and humans.

OK, so there is a drug more disruptive than Alcohol, and it is Cocaine.

But it's not because of the high, it's because of it's mystique, including people dieing to give it to you.

Legalize it, and people will realize how stupid it is to speed.

Legalize it, and the truly dark underworld of Cartels and Gangs, will be exposed.
