JPEG/Slide Show Problem XP PRO

A customer of my wife has a problem viewing her photos. When she opens her picture folders, instead of the preview of the actual pictures in the folder she gets the JPEG Image Icon over each picture name. Her slide show viewer (View as a Slide Show) isn't working either. The only way she can view her pictures is with Media Player or Paint.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.

I would right click the first picture, select open with, and choose program (or other), then select Microsoft Image and Fax Viewer, but before clicking ok, be sure to click the box that says always use this program. Now the pictures will open up in that and she can click the slideshow button. Also, when she clicks on future jpg files, they should open in that program and she can again do the slideshow.
