Joystick calibration not "holding'?

I seem to be having a bit of a problem with NASCAR Racing 2003. After uninstalling the game last year due to some technical issues, I decided to reinstall the game last week. A faster processor (AMD FX-60) and video card (8800GTX) makes the game run buttery smooth. However, there is one issue that is driving me crazy! Roughly 50% of the time that I start the game, the "Calibrate" screen for my joystick will pop up. I did have a bad Throttle button on my original "Logitech Attack 3" joystick and replaced it with the same stick, but I still get the recalibrate screen about 50% of the time when starting up.

I have calibrated the stick for Windows in Control Panel, and the stick performs great in-game. Other than this problem, I have no complaints. Does anyone have an idea as to what is happening here?

Its called Logitech... I've had their Logitech Wingman Extreme joystick and their Logitech Wingman Rumblepad. Both have calibration issues where it workes for about 15 minutes or less before completely losing calibration. Logitech just makes horrible gaming devices..
