In March, Journey finished recording their highly anticipated 13th studio album, GENERATIONS. As a sign of gratitude to their devoted fans who helped put Journey in the top 30 best-selling music groups of all time (having sold over 75 million albums worldwide), copies of the GENERATIONS CD will exclusively be given away free with the purchase of a ticket at most of the concerts along the tour route. A worldwide retail release once the trek concludes is currently being planned.

Neal Schon said on the Rockline interview in Feb. that they wanted to make the concert 3.5 to 4 hours a night, but looks like it'll end up "only" 3 hours. LOL. Rush did the same thing for their 30th anniversary shows last year, which were phenomenal, playing something from every album except one.

Thankfully both Journey and Toto (making album right now) recently parted ways with Sony so I'm looking forward to hearing what they do without Sony's restraints holding them back.

Riiight...I'm sure Sony was holding them back. More like a lack of talent was holding them back!

Wheels in the sky keep on turning....

As for Rush, I went to their concert in Houston. It was good, but they didn't hand out free albums like Journey's going to do. :(

What is it the 30th anniversary of? Anyone caring about Journey?

;)

Actually, "Escape" was the first album I ever bought with my own money, although I can't say I'm not slightly embarrassed by that fact. I much prefer my second record, "Zenyatta Mondatta" by the Police.

Greg Rolle? He was the lead singer before Journey lost all it's tetesterone and became a vehicle for Steve Perry to annoy us with.

BTW that whiny bitch sounding Steve Perry is no longer with the band, he's been replaced by Steve Augeri as lead singer

Augeri is a Steve Perry clone. My impression is that he was hired precisely because he looks and sounds exactly like Perry.

Just in case people didn't know what he sounded like, Gregg Rollie was the singer on Santana's version of "Black Magic Woman." Neal Schon also played guitar on that song.

IMHO, Journey was an example of a group with very good musicians (in terms of chops), but put out forgettable (yet popular) crap.

Yeah Rollie sang and played Keyboard on Santana's "Abraxus" album which IMO was/is Santana's best album.

When Journey first started they played much harder rock than than they did when Perry joined them which made them more of a Pop/Chick Favorite band. The first time I saw them with Perry was at a David Bowie Concert and I was dismayed that they sold out like that. Prior to that every time I saw them they really rocked the house. Their first album which was self titled was their best IMO.

Well you really don't know for sure, now do you? Yes, perhaps you're unaware, but record labels have been known to keep bands from doing things exactly the way they want. I'm curious, who then in your opinion making pop rock music in the last decade has more talent than Journey?
Steve Augeri is a great singer/songwriter.
Neal Schon is, as most professional musicians would agree, one of the best guitarists in the world. Having been asked by Eric Clapton to play with him one day, and asked by Santana to join his band the very next, all at the age of 15. Gibson recently bought a new machine just to build a whopping 25 of Neal's signature guitar. Link.
Steve Smith (former drummer) is one of the better drummers in the world. Deen Castronovo is a fine drummer, having played with The Baby's, Bad English, Steve Vai, and Ozzy, and a very good singer (he's been singing more and more at Journey concerts lately and sings a few songs on the new album).
John is great on keys and piano, guitar, and one of the better writers in the world.
Ross is a tight bassist.
Together as a band I can't think of any songs they've written that I don't like.

Yep, he does look and thankfully sound a lot like Steve Perry, and as this interview with Neal says, if they didn't have someone that could sing the Perry songs, there were a lot of good songs they wouldn't be able to do live anymore. I, and most fans, are thankful they chose who they did. But I've also read other interviews with Neal, John and Ross where that's not the only reason they wanted him. He's just a great singer, having been in Tall Stories, etc. He was available at the time. He's a nice guy and easy to work with (still true after being in Journey for 7 years now). And is a fine song writer. Here's and interview with Augeri that tells why in his words. And a couple interviews with Neal about Augeri - 1, 2.

Please don't turn this into a Perry vs. Augeri arguement. It's been to death on the Journey forums/lists with a few who just couldn't get over it.

Anyway, if you're 30+ years old, I thought some of you might like to know this information. If you don't, just move on. Who gives a rats ass if you don't like Journey? I don't piss in your oatmeal.
