Joss Stone...

...has an incredibly soulful voice that defies all logic (and, while not my particular style, isn't a bad looking chick either). Just saw her Grammy Performance with Melissa Etheridge, and I was shocked. I wasn't really paying attention until I looked up and realized she was a teenaged white chick. I can't believe she flew under my radar with that type of vocal expression and control. You can't teach that, either you have it or you don't

That is all.

For some reason I can't get into that "soulful" music. Although I recognize their talent like Alicia Keys's performance tonight. But give me Dido or Enya over either of them anyday, musicwise 😉

Her singing style is too affected for my taste on the songs I've heard, trying way to hard to be a Soul Sista. But she does have more vocal talent than Duff, Lohan, Jojo, and most other pop tarts.

Heck, you can find more vocal talent than those chicks in most any local church choir.

chuckywang: It was a Janis Joplin tribute, Joss Stone sang "Cry Baby" and Etheridge sang "Piece of My Heart".

OK, vocally she may be somewhat affected; while IMO she did a good job of selling it (particularly live on stage), I can entertain that argument... but even if that is the case, I'd take that over the "effects" of ProTools Autotune anyday. Seriously, I heard from a couple very reliable industry sources at completely random times that Britney Spears' bookings for recording sessions usually only consist of 30mins for recording vocals and the better part of a day for vocal correction. It's sad.

"Pop tart" has now permanently entered my vocabulary, thanks DaveSimmons. And 17 is quite legal in Mass (16 actually, hah).

her album sucked though..bah

That's what I worried would happen. lol. I will have a listen for myself today, as I learned to take the ATOT opinion with a basketball-sized grain of salt long ago. 😀

I thought bother her and Etheridge rocked last night singing those Joplin songs though Etheridge shaved head freaked me out right at first.

I remember seeing her on VH1's Divas Live show - she a VERY good live singer, but when she hits the studio, she sounds like she's trying too hard to pull out the soul in her voice.

This sounds like it might be where my opinion will lie. Usually when this is the case, you have to fault poor direction from studio producers... 🙁

I'm still trying to check out her album today...

We all know that Mellisa Etheridge prefers chicks, but I heard that Joss Stone does too. I've never heard of her before seeing her on TV last night..
The Janis Joplin tribute was great! Etheridge really kicked ass. and I am not a big fan of Etheridge.. more of a metal head.
She was bald because she is going into chemo for her cancer.
