The joke was the obvious...

Well duh... meaning that the grandfather doesn't like the current presidency, and thought it was obvious to the everyone that that is the problem. So then the OP, thought it would be funny to say something totally opposite and shocking to what you expect.

It was probably meant as a joke, but even still, it really isn't all that funny.
