joining the domain

I am having some difficulties with joining w2k workstation to the domain . I have a user in active directory and computer account ready.
When I'm trying to join domain I get an error "This server cannot perform specified operation" .

Please help me to resolve that problem.

Thank you ,

You shouldnt make accounts for the computers ahead of time.
You should log on locally to the workstation, specify the domain you want to join.
When you are asked for credentials, you want to input a/the domain admin account.
Barring any network problems, this method should work.

Thank you for your response.
I have already tryied to join domain when there was no computer acc on the domain , I had same error. I was also using my admin acc and I had the same error . I wonder what that may be because two weeks ago I was able to successfully join my domain.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas what that may be.

Thanks !

Not only do you have to be admin on the box you are trying to put into the domain, but I believe you must have to the credentials to be able to add devices into the domain - domain admin.

It really doesn't matter if you create the computer account before you join the domain or during the join.

As far as your error message, is this domain an Active Directory domain or an NT 4 domain?
