Johnny Cash - Hurt

I think it's an amazing cover.
Me too. He was one of the few country artists that I like. And if you can cover Hurt then you know you are a badass (unconcerned with conventions). 🙂

Yeah that was depressing as hell when it came out...then he died... 🙁

Man, I never like the NiN version, but when I heard this when it came out, it was and still is in my top 5 favorites. I get goosebumps to this day everytime I hear it.

It's interesting to see his video and the Nine Inch Nails video. It seems like Johnny Cash is asking forgiveness (edit-or at the very least acknowledging the pain he has caused) where Reznor seems to embrace those feelings in his music without apology...both are sad.

great post. its posts like this that make me think there must be at least a few people with a brain left here, i get so tired of the should i date this girl?, i feel like i have the soul of dog what should i do, my church says i should believe blindly what should i do, why do christians believe in god, my butt is itchy what should i do.

thanks for sharing

What's up with all the bandwagon Cash fans?

Some of us have been fans of Cash since you were is diapers, bub. He's always been a musical presence that transends genres.

Honestly, the song sounds RIGHT with Johnny Cash. NIN, not so much.

The NIN version comes across as a defiant 30-something going "OMG MY LIFE SUCKS, AND I CAN ACCEPT THAT!" whereas Johnny Cash lends a "Yeah. That sucked. Too bad I can't change it" kind of attitude to it.

Yeah ok fair enough, but you gotta admit it was the "in" thing to hop on the Cash bandwagon after his death.

And this is different from any other recently deceased celebrity/musician, how?

Death is always a reminder and tribute of the life once lived.

This reminds me of a line off the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Last DJ, the song Joe

:music:So burnt-out Johnny thinks our books are shifty
What good's that alchy to me when he's 50?
We could move catalog if he'd only die quicker
Send my regards to the gig and a case of good liquor.:music:

Yep. We're not all teenagers or early 20somethings. I'm on the heavy side of 30 myself. 🙁

His cover is better than Trent's original. The song is great, but people tend to relate to it better with Cash due to his history.

As for the Johnny Cash bandwagon, he was great before he died, and still great after. Cash was not as accepted by the public as many would have you believe.

Isn't it neat how he just threw that in after he gave up on the whole dead-celebrity-bandwagon speal? Best not to feed the troll...
