He was prosecuted to condition public opinion to even more repressive and dictatorial measures, without even the pretenses of due process. Padilla, They said we don't even need a stinking civil court room anymore🙂

I was making a comment in the hope of spurring intelligent conversation. While the right to original thought isn't explicitly guaranteed in the Bill of Right, my right to free speech is. If you don't like it then leave.
Can't you see how moronic that tired argument is? In almost every post where I've seen that used it comes off as "Your thoughts are different than mine and I don't want to even consider the fact that they may have some merit. My way is the American way so you must be unamerican. Why don't you just pack up and leave."
Sure there may be a few cases where somebody ought to just pick up and get out because they really don't belong here. But the amount that it is said onthis board is just rediculous.
When someone is sent to prison, the time they serve is their punishment. No one deserves to be beaten while they are in there. I hate when people act like that kind of treatment is ok, or even good. You serve your time, you lose your life for that period, that is your punishment. I for one, pity anyone that is treated like that in prison. 🙁

LoL Ok, that was stretching, but seriously... C'mon. When he left for Afghanistan, the Taliban regime was already on the US sh1t list, Usama was on the America's Most Wanted list, and the Al Quaeda (sp?) had been implicated in terrorist bombings for years.
I don't think any treatment is too severe in this case.

20 years is too lenient a sentence for him. John Walker Lindh did have connections to Al Quada. Don't forget, he actually met Osama Bin Laden. Plus, do you really think he didn't play a part in the prison uprising where Mike Spann was killed? He did not cooperate with the CIA when they tried to interrogate him earlier, and I am sure when the uprising started he didn't just meekly stand in the corner. He was fighting the guards as well. He may have been one of the group that killed Mike Spann.

Actual pictures of Lindh not cooperating with the CIA
Muslim inmates had been protecting Lindh because they saw him as a hero, but withdrew their support when Lindh rejected their radical views.
It doesn't seem to me that he is some kind of traitorous Al Qaeda operative, just a really stupid kid who was made a scapegoat because of America's lust for revenge after 9/11. He got what he deserved, 20 years.

I could agree with that If I could believe all the evidence and he was given a fair trial. But that not what happened. 100% of the case was brought about by what he said, held for 54 days as you see him in that picture or worse without seeing an attoney or human rights worker, and later when in public court he tried to recind it all was'nt allowed. I just can't stop asking myself, If the government had nothing to hide, why not give him due process, and why later change the newer cases to military tribunals? It's amazing how much faith people place in thier government IMO.
