:D It wasn't an insult, I said you were BEING a jerk, I didn't say you WERE one. Anyhoo I should know better than to get involved - you'd win because obviously you're on a mission and are quite passionate about this. If I had to dig out my theology books from university, it would make me really crabby.

I'm gonna be 30 this year dude! It sucks, but the year is finally here. Cut me some slack man!!

Bashing my SN is weak, it's along the lines of "ololololo i porked ur mom" or "u r teh pwn3d". It has nothing to do with the debate at hand, and like other attacks not related whatsoever to the issue being discussed, implies that you have no argument but lack the maturity to admit it or not post at all. Do you really expect anyone to believe you're to be 30 soon? 15 perhaps...

Now you're making me laugh! Hey, if I really sound less than my age, I guess that's a good thing in some cases - 15 though, come on! heheh - yeah I'm 29.

I believe the thread topic was about the religious flamefests going on, ie. 'civil war' breaking out on OT. I have no "argument" per se, I was simply jumping into this thread to make a few statements, namely that I just think it's kinda odd that your crusade has taken up so much space in threads recently. Mind you, it's interesting reading. Hey, I'm here for a good time, not a long time (you'll be happy to hear that I'm sure). The way things are going, I'll get sick of OT and just stick to the "tech" forums.

I said it earlier, in other threads... I preach tolerance towards other viewpoints and opinions, especially religions. Your penchant seems to be a lack of tolerance, I assume that is why I was sucked into this thread in the first place. I apologize for the Jurck thing - that is weak, lame, and it *would* be the first thing a 10-year-old would come up with.

Like beginning this month's religious debates by quoting the bible? Oh wait, that's OK since it coincides with your beliefs ;)

I bet if atheists walked around town trying to get people to not believe in God, people would be up in arms about it saying how it's horrible. But when relgious people come knocking on my door, they all think it's a wonderful thing.

One has the potential of ending up burning in hell forever, while the other has the potential of living eternally happy. There's quite the difference.
According to you.

No... that is according to the beliefs of both sides. Maybe you don't know anything about the religions of christians or atheits, but one believes in God, the other does not. Now the one that believes in God, if correct, goes to heaven, and the one that doesn't believe in God goes to hell. But if the one that believes in God is incorrect, then nothing happens. So the safer bet is always with God. That isn't "according to me". Unless you want to go to hell.

Unless the real god is from a differentl religion or no formal religion set forth in the world and you're actually worshipping a false god in which case you'll be toasting or freezing or being boned or whatever else the "real" god does to people who worship the wrong guy.

Gurck, just being the devil's advocate here, m75 didn't seem to be trying to say that your username meant you were a jerk--just drawing a parallel between an alternate pronunciation, and how many of us view your actions. ;) Don't take this wrong; I'm not calling you a jerk, or in any way putting words in m75's mouth.

I just don't understand how the Bible thread can get under your skin in such a way, while failing to see that wishing for that thread to be locked is highly ironic in light of how often Christians are criticized for not having enough tolerance. The difference between that threads and iPod referral threads is that the only person the iPod referral holds interest to is the author of the thread. There have proven to be other people interested in discussing it.

I fail to see how the thread title you have an issue with can be as bad as a "smack to the face". Take, for instance, a certain thread titled "Atheism in a year (Part 1: The Roots of Religion)." As a Christian, I take issue with the beliefs fueling this thread, but merely seeing the thread? Who cares? If I was interested, I would participate. I'm not, but live and let live, right? Who am I to decide that my religion is superior? We'll find out in the end, anyway, right? Someone has to be right... Hopefully, anyway :p

I can't believe you nuts are still rationalizing having an evangelist in the forum. Put me down all you want, you know if the shoe was on the other foot you'd have an issue with someone quoting the quran here, or basically trying to hard-sell any non-christian religion. I hate hypocrites.

Well, I was imitating you, so it seems you may have some issues to work out with how you feel about yourself ;)

Some of you seem to think this is bad? It's been worse than this many years ago in this country and has never resulted in "civil war". There may well be another civil war in this country in the future, but, religion will not be the cause nor the reason for it.

If you really wanted to imitate me, you would start by being a lot more respectful of everyone else's views. It is obvious who has the issues here.

Your actions, or non-actions, speak volumes about your character. You are issued a public apology here and a private one via PM and your response is to continue acting like a pompous grandstanding fool instead of perhaps admitting that you are taking this a little too far. You seem to have mastered the ability to flash your wit, one sharp tongue-in-cheek response after another. Until you accept and respect the fact that other members here hold different views than yourself, you'll be severely limited in your growth as an individual. Frankly I find your closed-mindedness disturbing, and I hope everything is going well in your life outside of this forum, I really do.

So essentially I should want to have bible-quotation spam in a tech forum because accepting jesus christ leads to personal growth? And shall I assume from your example that personal growth means namecalling over the internet? You're really one to talk.

While I'm not close-minded at all about peoples' beliefs, I don't want to filter through spam attempts to convert me on AT. What is closeminded is feeling that it's ok because those beliefs coincide with your own and branding anyone who doesn't agree with your own beliefs an immature troll.

I get your point Gurck. You don't want to see the religious mumbo-jumbo in Off Topic. Until such time that it is banned or another forum created/modified to include it, I assume the mods will moderate the discussions and keep everything in check. I doubt it will ever happen, no matter how hard you blow your horn. This is Off Topic, and the last time I checked, Religion qualified as being a non-tech topic.

For the record I never called you anything, I did say you were acting like a couple things. Personally I would never try to convert anyone. What we are all free to do is engage in meaningful discourse about the differences in various opinions and views, and with any luck and the right mindset, we can learn from and benefit from these exchanges.

Alternatively, if I wanted to avoid such a discussion - or avoid even seeing people partake in one - I would simply exit said thread or not click into it at all. We're all free to exercise both options aren't we? Unless you're strapped into your chair with toothpicks holding your eyes open and being forced to read things you don't agree with, the filtering part should be pretty easy.

A civil war? LOL - that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. Outside of ATOT in the "real world" the group of crazy fundy Christians is tiny, and the group of crazy Christian hating atheists is tiny. The large majority of people get along just fine with their religious differences - much better now than in the past. ATOT is not the same as the real world.

LOL
