Seems like everywhere McCane goes, except Iraq, Lieberman is there, right besides him. He goes to Jordan, Lieberman is whispering lovely things in his ear. He goes to Israel, Lieberman is there to lay the wreath at the Holocaust Memorial. He goes to England, you guessed it, Lieberman is right behind him.

Is he trying to get the VP nod? He seems to have this Rasputin-like influence over McCane. This guy is even more pro-war than McCane. Does it bother anyone else?

Learn how to spell "McCane's" last name, and then get back to us, or is this another immature knock off of a candiates last name that I'm not aware of?

McCain offers enormous support for Lieberman's causes (Israel.)

Personally I think a McCain Lieberman ticket would be awesome. I've always loved Joe Lieberman.

I've thought that would be a good ticket for awhile too. At least it'd make the whole process much more interesting.

back to the OP...

McCain picking up Joey L for a VP would kill the whole "Elect a uniter" card Obama is playing should he get the nod, and would make it easier for the multitude of Hilla-Haters on the dem side to vote McCain should she get the nod.

Though it's still highly unlikely, I dont think we've ever seen a mixed party ticket.

Lieberman is a chickenhawk. He lost the primary contest in Conneticut (sic?) and went on to run as an independent, with strong support from the Republican Party of Conneticut, in effect screwing their own candidate. Lieberman is far from a Democrat. The guy wants to invade Iran yesterday.

I find Joe Lieberman to be one of the most horrifying people in Washington today. Everything is the fault of video games, movies, or anyone who isn't Israel.

I agree, as a Connecticut resident, I despise him.

Liebs is pro-war, but liberal just about everywhere else, so I don't think it's fair to question his credentials. Gay rights groups love him, the NRA hates him. I think we've heard enough people call McCain a liberal because of his initial opposition to bush tax cuts and his soft on immigration policy, despite the fact that on everything else his votes have gone party line.

How exactly are we supposed to get politicians to "reach across the aisle" as we always say we want them to, when the minute one of them does do something out of step with the party they are castigated?

Because certain things define a generation. I can understand him being pro-Iraq invasion and pro-Afghan invasion, but to be for a THIRD war says a lot about a man. Remember, Neoconservatives started out in the Democratic Party. Back in the 1960s, Lieberman would've been the perfect neocon. Some things haven't changed one bit. The guy wants to bankrupt this country.

they're friends and share the same views on a great number of issues.

Leiberman's already said that he does not want and will not accept another VP slot (I think his words were something along the lines of been there, done that, no thanks).

It's the latter.

McCane is a play on his name that emphasizes his age (old people need a walking cane)

I'm a CT resident, in my fifties and have experienced Lieberman for years, first at the state level, then the Senate Until this decade he was worth voting for, even though he was always far more concerned with Israel than CT-we are just a voting base for him. In this decade, though, he has gone off the deep end. He inspired a full scale revolt among Dems and independents (I registered Dem for the first time since the early 70's just to be able to vote in the closed primary against him). He is one of the most, if not the most, agressive hawks in the Senate of either party. This whole bipartisan thing is phony, the only attachment he has to the Democratic party is sentimental. Without (NYC Mayor) Bloomberg's money, and the full support of the CT GOP (who threw their candidate under the bus) and the national GOP he never would have been elected.

4/9 more years of McCain/Lieberman would be like 8 more years of GWB, without the hilarious misstatements. And since CT has a GOP governor, she would appoint his replacement if he is elected VP.

Be very scared. Far too many people buy Lieberman's line of BS. It would be a very hard ticket to defeat. Fortunately it would also send the Rushies/far right wing of the GOP into full scale revolt (hopefully) so this probably will never happen. More likely would be Sec of State or Defense in a McCain administration.
