John Madden, Overrated? Yay or Nay?

You know, while John Madden may not be the person you want tutoring you for your EE degree, you have to admit the man knows his football.

Love or hate the man, at least he has something resembling a personality, a trait sadly lacking in so many of the monotone fact sheet readers that seem to populate sports announcing these days.

While he may still come off relatively oafish in his presentation and demeanor, he gets my respect for finding a career he loves and is obviously passionate about. He absolutely loves football, and is very fortunate to have found his calling both in coaching and later in announcing. The man has forgotten more about football than more of us will ever have the good fortune of knowing.
 
He invented "turducken", so he can't be that bad. He does tend to straddle the line between annoying and "gun-toting nude Carrot Top" though. 😛

Miller was actually pretty cool. He was kind of the antithesis of Madden who is less intelligent and witty. I think my vocabulary expanded by watching his broadcasts.
 
Overrated yes because he's getting older and isn't at the top of his game...

but he's still the best color guy in the nfl.
