As I see by the comments above. Some like to blindly play "follow the leader" no matter where it leads.
It's good to see LeCarre can still write fiction but I see he still hasn't lost his style of being over-dramatic.

And as long as you brought it up, Vietnam was a case of non-commital pure and simple. Our guys didn't have/receive what they needed when they needed it.
