Fired!

"I love Hitler," Galliano said in a video obtained by Britain's Sun newspaper. "Your mother, your forefathers would be f---ing gassed and f---ing dead."

Strange considering that he would have been placed in Aushwitz if he were alive.

Before today 99% of people on the planet (if not more) had no idea who this guy was. I doubt they care now, either.

Perhaps, but his designs represented about 5% of Dior's sales. Dior had €17 billion in revenue, and this guy represented about €850 million of that. That's pretty significant.

Negative; it's tabloid fodder for the "housewives of _____" watching crowd.

I don't see how this can't be considered news while John Edwards infidelity can be considered news or how Mike Hurd being fired from HP can be considered news.

Alright, how about Mike Hurd being fired from HP? How is that news?

It seems like this would be pretty clear, you're on a message board for a technology website. We know what HP is. We don't know what Dior. The exploits of John Galliano are clearly news, but no one here cares.

It's definitely news. Europe has long had an anti-minority stance. A major company firing an employee for disgusting remarks is a big move for social change within Europe. Especially so for a country like France, a country that has a long history with genocide of the minority group targeted by the remarks.

Dior, what is this? Yes, I'm serious. First time I ever heard of Dior was within the last day. I assume it's some fashion house or something, maybe they make clothes, who really knows.

Fashion has to be literally the most wasteful pastime in the entire human existence. It's endlessly reinventing ways to wear clothes.

Christian Dior is a 60 year-old fashion house with something like 18 billion dollars in revenue.

even if it's not news, perse, it's still kinda funny to think about someone who looks like that sitting in a bar yelling about how much he loves Hitler.
