A shout out to a director that is far under appreciated.

Re-watching the Ghosts of Mars. Despite not being his best effort the film holds up well over time. Which is something that can be said of many of his films. Even today The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China, two movies that got no respect when released, are completely watchable. Ten years after Star Wars the idiotic dialogue puts off rewatching, but The Fog still is a good watch.

He did a fantastic job with Christine - A movie that is still soo eery that it freaked me out as young kid and even now frightens me to no end.

The campiness of They Live and the great one liners from Roddy Piper- fantastic!

The Thing is my favourite, but I think In The Mouth of Madness is my second favourite of his. He is prolific and has so many freaking awesome movies. Impressively he did the music for a lot of them as well. I'm a huge fan.

I go back to Assault on Precinct 13 and The Eyes of Laura Mars and the original Halloween days. Those movies were genuinely scary. Looking at them now, the R ratings that they got would barely garner a PG now. Growing up, he was my favorite director.

When "The Thing" was redone by Carpenter in '82 a lot of people grimaced at the thought of a classic from the '50's being ruined, but that notion was quickly put to rest once the public opinion weighed in, not only was it not ruined but it turned out to be much better than the original, it's not even close. One has to keep in mind how many re-boot's came out truly horrific, (Flight of the Phoenix, the time machine, War of the worlds, just to name a few). Carpenter's version was better cast, much more suspenseful, much better screenplay and jaw-dropping, mind-bending special effects that were first's, I still remember the scene of the severed head sprouting legs and trying to get away, I saw it at the theater and the crowd reaction was like O M F G when that happened LOL..

You've gotta be fucking kidding!

Not sure if I'd call Carpenter underappreciated. People who know movies know Carpenter and appreciate his works.

The Thing is the quintessential winter storm horror movie. 😀

You've gotta be fucking kidding!

Reach anybody? We're a thousand miles from nowhere, man, and it's gonna get a hell of a lot worse before it gets any better!

Apparently, you don't remember the dialogue very well....

Of which one? Carpenters version was excellent, the original was rather plain-Jane '50's sci-fi stuff. I don't mind someone criticizing my post or disagreeing with my opinion but a response like "are you fucking kidding" with nothing else is moronic, state exactly where you think I'm wrong..

He's quoting the line from the 1982 movie that Nauls said when he saw the head grow legs and walk away. He wasn't commenting on the old or new versions quality.
