EDIT: More clarification shows he will remain with id in some capacity though it will be on the backburner compared to his efforts for Occulus

Interesting.....I guess he can probably do whatever he wants and work on both.

Seems like a deathblow to id honestly with the way things are going over there.....

Huge credibility boost to Occulus. Couldnt have picked a better person to lead the tech on it.

interesting news, Carmack was probably one of the main reasons why Oculus was successful so far, and he has been talking a lot about displays and I/O over the last few years, so it sounds like a great thing.

Well with him closing up his space company, he now has some more time to spend on other projects.

He has not left ID, just puts in less time there.

This is a good thing. We need someone like him to help jump start this revolution in gaming.

From what I learned about John C. back in the 90's, this is a natural fit for someone who dreams of an ever more perfect machine-generated alternate reality.
