<< But since we're in an emergency situation, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and not complain until/if they abuse these new war time powers. And I'll fully expect them to be retracted after we win significant gains in this conflict both at home, and abroad. >>
I will never give the government the benefit of the doubt. Thats what they want.
And I HIGHLY disagree that they will retract ANY legislation passed.
It seems most of it is to just get their foot in the door on monitoring all of our communications. And that will NEVER stop, mark my words. >>
The one thing I find most disturbing, is our nations inability to recall historical precedence.
The actions being taken today are a hell of a lot less intrusive than those taken by our government during WWII, and nearly all those legislative actions were withdrawn after the war was over.
As I said, if they begin to abuse these special powers, I will complain. But for now I'll accept them as a TEMPORARY measure to curb internal and external terrorism.
Sammy, you know I'm a libertarian, and hate ANY intrusive government legislation. I have one exception to that: During war time, when our country has come under attack.
