I saw some of the "making of" stuff yesterday. They were showing how they used computer graphics and built some good sets to reproduce Philidelphia and New York.... They said they shot all the European scenes in Hungary.

I'm sure they'll be showing this a lot.

I saw in the credits the part about the Hungarian unit, and I was tempted to look up what parts were shot there. Thanks for the info.

You really have to give credit to Paul Giamantti for doing this series, his role requires heavy acting in period customs. He could probably make as much selling out his name for some Hollywood farce and do no work.

I do give him credit for it, but I'm sure he will get plenty in reward. I'm sure HBO pays very well, and i'm sure the show will win a bunch of awards etc.

Thanks for reminding me. It does get a bit dry but provides a very good perspective on the history, since we don't always hear so much about John Adams and because it is so well produced. The George Washington looks very much like what we traditionally picture him as.

Lasted all of 90 seconds?. The last 2 episodes have been pretty boring.

i love jefferson's retorts:

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants, it is a natural manure"

damn, i'm an idiot. just watching the first part in this miniseries (gotta love on demand) and for the first time, i realized just how bad "tar and feathering" is. OMG. that is brutal.

Yeah i always thought it was something to do to just publicly humiliate them but geez that was brutal. I see why they showed that though. Last episode they had john adams explain why he supports a strong central government and he uses that scene as an example. Its kinda depressing so see the struggles that these guys went through to get us our liberties and now to see bush and co. strip them all away without even much of a fight 🙁

"Was it good for you, too?"

"Uh, are you in yet?" 😛

I'm not liking how they make Hamilton out to be so evil and Jefferson so righteous. I know it will tend to lean that way because Jefferson and Adams were close friends, but they take it a step further.

God damnit I hate people who whine and never take responsbility for nothing!!!

Our elected officals (republicans, demos,..whatever) , congress, senate..."the gov't of the people" screwed everything up. Me and you buddy! Me and you!!! It's our country! We voted (I hope). These are the people who we elect!! Who do you think made and passed all these policies?!? Now STFU and do something about it!!!

You're the same guy who gets elected 10 years from now and points the finger at someone else for your own f'up. No leadership. Where did it go?!?!

*head explodes*

Well, it is from the perspective of Adams, is it not? From his perspective, I'm sure Hamilton wasn't exactly revered.

Also, I don't think they portrayed Jefferson as a righteous man. He seemed to come off as almost naive at times, an idealist that isn't in touch with the realities of what Adams faced. You have to remember that Jefferson had a much privileged life (at least relative to Adams), and so looked to the people with a greater sense of personal responsibility than did Adams, a man who likely saw more of the worst of people.

So, I saw Jefferson portrayed more as a baseline from which the politics were derived, and Adams the man who crafted them according to the constraints society required.

^ I say the above with respect to how the series played out, not necessarily the historical account, the details of which I am largely ignorant.

It's amazing that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4th 1826, only a few hours apart, on the 50th anniversary of the declaration of independence. Also it's crazy that John Adams lived to 90 1/2 years old back then. Wow.

Anyways, it was a great series and will be due for many Emmys no doubt.

Is there something wrong with your eye? The left one looks a little off...

Hope all is okay with you.

Any time I read about it in a book it always had an amusing imagery to me. The first time I saw it on Carnivale was just painful though.

It makes sense that if Hamilton hated Jefferson and Adams so much that he would conspire against them behind the scenes from an election stand point then a series about John Adams would portray him in a less then flattering light. Besides, he wanted to repress freedoms. He would have made the press completely controlled by the government and silence freedom of speech of the people if given the power.
