Yet another high profile player leaves a Minnesota team in its long list of not being able to keep its key players... Names that come to mind: R Moss, K Garnett, D Ortiz, H Walker... Looks like Moss and Garnett have a good chance of winning a ring this year, Ortiz and Walker already did after leaving... Will the Mets be next?

*snipped comments on other MN teams*

Santana had a nice run in MN and he's going to be sorely missed, but the Twins are a small market team. They can't afford to pay one player 30-50% of it's entire payroll. That makes absolutely no sense, and they've done pretty well not doing that in the last decade.

The Twins are a small market team with extremely wealthy ownership. It is unfortunate for the fans that the ownership wants to run the team like a business, because that means their chances for competing is not very good.

As long as the Pohlad family owns the team, that situation will remain unfortunately.

The Twins compete every year...maybe not World Series caliber, but they field a winning team every year. 4 division championships in the 2000's...that's competing. I won't argue with you that they are not a WS caliber team...and haven't been in any of those 4 years, but they are competing.

Yes, I should have clarified - I meant compete for a WS. Management has done a pretty good job with the hand they have been dealt by the ownership.

I agree, they have. And, actually, i'd rather have a team that has a chance at the division every single year and entertains me year after year (it is entertainment after all) than a team that is up and down, up and down. Know what i mean? They'll never be the Yankees or Red Sox or any of those teams that has a huge payroll and market. The Twin Cities can't support that type of team. At least they are entertaining every year. That's all i can ask really...especially with the Pohlad's.

Isnt the WS what you play for though? Whats the point at the beginning of the season if you know you wont win the WS?

Ask Carl Pohlad.

Tick Tock Tick Tock. Times a runnin out.. Will the Mets get it done, or will Mets fans suffer like they did during the collapse of 2007?

This deal is the same as the Dice-K one. It will come down to the 11th hour, but I have no doubt that it will get done.
