I am sure some of you have seen this or a version of it. Still worth passing around though.

JOE vs. JOSE

You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California .

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Ready? Now pay attention....

Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.

Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.0 0 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00.

Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics and emergency hospitals at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps, WIC and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has 9,631 .00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month Federal Rent Subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for car insurance. Some of that is uninsured motorist insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc..

Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month..

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same elementary school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches, while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home.

Now, when they reach college age, Joe Legal's kids may not get into a State School and may not qualify for scholarships, grants or other tuition help, even though Joe has been paying for State Schools through his taxes, while Jose Illegal's kids "go to the head of the class" because they are a minority.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

Do you get it, now?

If you vote for or support any politician that supports illegal aliens... You are part of the problem!

Anyone who has actually lived in an area with a significant illegal immigrant population would spit their coffee out at their monitor laughing at how insanely wrong this chain email is.

Just a few of the more obviously dumb things from it:

1.) Illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare.
2.) Illegal immigrants are not eligible for federal rent subsidies (and how is he applying without a SSN anyway?)
3.) If the free medical care at the clinics and emergency rooms is so great, why doesn't Joe Legal go do that? (we already know the answer to this)
4.) So what if Joe Legal's kids go home instead of to ESL classes? Don't they already know English?
5.) Police and fire services are usually paid for by property taxes and sales taxes, something that both Joes are contributing to equally.

I could go on. Jesus, people. Think before you post this stuff.

But but but Jose Illegal's employer makes an additional (25-15) x 40 x 52 = $20,800 by hiring Jose. That's all that matters.

1.) Illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare.
Really?
http://cis.org/immigrant-welfare-use-2011
http://www.gao.gov/products/HEHS-98-30

2.) Illegal immigrants are not eligible for federal rent subsidies (and how is he applying without a SSN anyway?)
Then why is there an effort to stop it?
http://articles.latimes.com/2004/jun/11/local/me-housing11

3.) If the free medical care at the clinics and emergency rooms is so great, why doesn't Joe Legal go do that? (we already know the answer to this)
We do already know the answer. Its because Joe gets stuck with a bill, because according to his income, he can afford it.

4.) So what if Joe Legal's kids go home instead of to ESL classes? Don't they already know English?
Point being that we have to have special classes just for those who can't speak english. Maybe if they did their job and learned it, we wouldn't need a special set of classes and teachers just for them, costing taxpayers even more.

5.) Police and fire services are usually paid for by property taxes and sales taxes, something that both Joes are contributing to equally.
Where exactly would Jose be paying property tax in this scenario which is were a majority comes from?

Really.

1.) Your link is to an ultra-nativist site that is hardly a reputable source.
2.) Your link isn't even to what we're talking about as it is about all immigrants, not illegal immigrants.
3.) Your GAO report is talking about 1995.

Your article is about how a city wasn't enforcing the law as it was on the books, so yes your article explicitly proves my point. Additionally, the article says it was affecting 3,000 people. Even if we assume all 3,000 are illegal (which is probably nowhere close to true), LA County is home to about 750,000 illegal immigrants, meaning that those 3,000 people comprise approximately 0.4% of the illegal immigrants there. But sure, nothing dishonest at all about having an email that states something as fact that the other 99.6% can't do.

We do already know the answer. Its because Joe gets stuck with a bill, because according to his income, he can afford it.

They would both be stuck with exactly the same bill, and Jose is not eligible for Medi-Cal because he is not a citizen. Both can choose to pay it or not to pay it. If Joe doesn't his credit will be ruined, but Jose never had the option of credit to begin with.

Point being that we have to have special classes just for those who can't speak english. Maybe if they did their job and learned it, we wouldn't need a special set of classes and teachers just for them, costing taxpayers even more.

We don't have to have them. They are a good idea though.

Where exactly would Jose be paying property tax in this scenario which is were a majority comes from?

Where exactly would Joe be paying property tax? The email already established they were both renters.

Oh, and by the way the email's math is even wrong. Joe's income -30% is $36,400, not $31,231. Like I said.... jesus.

Sounds like Jose Illegal is living the Rightwing dream. Low wages, no taxes, taking personal responsibility by not buying health insurance, great for the benevolent job creator. Pure free market Libertopianism!

x FICA they are not paying, but reduced by the fact they can't claim the expense as a deduction. Net/net probably the same.

It should not be Joe vs Jose. It's should be Joe and Jose against the people who pit them against each other for their own financial gain.

You don't go to work and have a job for your own financial gain?

What prevents Joe Legal from getting paid under the table and living the good life like his illegal friend?

Joe Legal can actually collect unemployment benefits while getting paid under the table at the same time. Jose can't do that. :D
