Aha, I get it - so Joe is a right-wing "hero" for getting Obama to "admit" that he's going to "...spread the wealth around..." Okay, great. Now, which do you prefer? That Obama spreads the wealth around to America's middle class? Or that McCain spreads the wealth around to big Corporations, high-flying CEOs, and the uber-wealthy?

That, my friends, is a fundamental difference. Both candidates will spread the wealth, however who it is spread to/from is the real point.
You are so wrong.

McCain is not going to spread the wealth to the rich via taxes.

Obama IS going to spread the wealth via taxes. HUGE difference.
Obama's plan is to take money from those who work hard and earn good wages and give it to those who do not.

And you're completely drunk on the kool-aid. McCain is spreading the wealth, just in the opposite direction of the middle class. Perhaps you need an illustration to help you understand which direction the wealth gets spread? Here:

WaPo McCain vs Obama Tax Analysis

As you can clearly see, the wealth gets spread from the lower and middle class straight to the wealthy. And of course, to the corporations. Like $4B in tax cuts for big oil corps. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to corporate welfare.

You couldn't be more wrong, PJ.

aaaaand, those people at the top two brackets have so many loopholes that they can shelter their money in anyways, and mccain wants to give them a tax cut??!?! mccain supporters are fucking smoking crack

Listening to Joe speak he really is a great American. Just you're average guy trying to get ahead. Hear more about him and a simple question that remains very telling about Obama's views.

Joe will be on Hannity tonight, should be a great show. 9:00 pm EDT on foxnews

If he's a great American, why doesn't he pay his taxes and hospital bills?

Obviously he's a great American because he is a good Republican puppet.

Simply appalling.

"The United States has the highest inequality and poverty in the OECD after Mexico and Turkey, and the gap has increased rapidly since 2000, the report said. Meanwhile France has seen inequalities fall in the past 20 years as poorer workers are better paid."

3rd after Mexico and Turkey? Wow, those are two countries I wouldn't want to be anywhere near on any data point.

and none at McCain.

the end.

You would think that after being surrounded by human waste all day, he'd want to get away from it in the off hours.

^^ I'll eat my hat if anything different happens.

I will add that I expect a lot of whining about being scrutinized by the media.

Answer the question. Directly. Why is the Joe the Plumber "a great American." Give examples. Rationalize. Do something to explain your statement other than "watch for yourself!"

Example:

1) Asking simple question of presidential candidate
2) Having personal responsibility to better oneself and provide
3) Ambition to reach higher through work
4) Making career decisions based on the better good for offspring

That's a great American.

Hey Obama fulfills all those! He's a great American too!

He's asked John McCain simple questions, he bettered himself at Harvard, he has the ambition to be President, and your last one wasn't really a complete sentence but I think it had to do with improving his life for the sake of his children-- check!

Yes, this was a boner, for sure. Never tell the truth in a political campaign! But, does this come as a surprise to anyone? I didn't think so....For the past 8 years the rich have gotten richer and the middle class has lost ground. Even McCain thinks that should change.

-Robert

I think Obama's quote and the response from people like "Joe" is actually worth looking at, but not for the reason Republicans think. Joe is among the majority of Republicans who think Republican economic policies help people like them, when in fact they help people who make far more money, while people like Joe would be better off voting Democratic. If people want to whine about the "MSM", whine about the fact that McCain regularly says his tax policies benefit the average hardworking American and nobody calls him on it. What he's saying is factually untrue, people like Joe the Plumber believe it, and the media dutifully passes it on without analyzing it to see whether or not he's full of shit or not.

Also, I know it's popular among Republicans to bash Obama as the "messiah", even though nobody on the left treats him that way. So it seems all the more ironic that righties are fawning over "Joe the Plumber" as this posterboy for the perfect "middle American".

I recently heard an interesting comparison between American and European news (I forget where). On European news they go to speak to experts, scientists, economists-- the smartest guys they can find. On American news we go to speak to "the man on the street".

I feel like the Republicans are doing the same with Joe the Plumber. Why does his opinion matter at all?

At what point did Americans became so threatened by intellectualism? When did being uninformed become a virtue?

Joe's opinion doesnt matter - it what BO said that matters. BO's campaign is trying to spin situation so that its about Joe and not BO. BO's words show his obvious socialist stripes and not Joe's.

Obama's campaign is making McCain bring up "Joe the Plumber" 11 million times per stump speech as the perfect example of the American dream? Is Obama's campaign making Hannity interview this guy, or making this guy agree to appear on a program that will almost certainly turn into an Obama-bashing fest?

Thanks for setting the bar so high. Chris Rock asked me to give you this... :cookie:

I never thought I'd see someone who is more undeserving of media attention than Paris Hilton but Joe did it. Congrats Joe. You win biggest douche in the universe. John Edwards will be relieved.

Points 2,3, and 4 apply to at least 75% of illegals and immigrants waiting in queue.

Therefore, according to your logic, they should be given citizenship ASAP.

Are you agreeing with me or did you mean to reply to spidey?

FWIW, there's a BIG difference between a legal and illegal immigrant.

I'm replying to Spidey. He seems to be republican and I presume he shares right wing views on immigration. I'm pointing out the irony in his description of a "great american" as against the hard right opposition to immigration.

When I refer immigrants, I'm pointing out to the ones waiting in queues.

BTW, I'm against illegal immigration.
