Joe Satriani = Worlds Greatest Living Rock Guitarist.

Saw him last night. Stood about 15 feet away and saw every movement of the hands. All I can say is Wow.

Kansas City. Small venue. Floor had no seats, just standing room. Wasn't even sold out. He had some guy, Ned Evans or something opening. He played a fretless glass fretboard guitar. Played about 4 songs. Nothing real impressive, alot of effects. But Joe....words don't describe.

To see him actually play the songs is incredible. For example, in the song "Friends" from "The Extremest", there's a part where there's harmony and sounds like two guitars....he played both parts at the same time.

I've liked his work ever since a friend loaned me "Surfing with the Alien" a decade ago, I have several of his CDs but not the last couple. Sounds like I missed a good show when I didn't catch his Seattle appearance. Maybe next time :)

Being able to see his hands play it all up close is pretty amazing. Last time I saw him was at The Fillmore in SF a few years ago. Got to stand very near front center, was simply awesome.

I think that's the guy that guitarists appreciate. I was surprised to see his name here :) My room mates loved that guy. They couldn't figure out how he did things on the guitar. I guess it had to do with fast/accurate hand placement to get hte proper notes? That is truely skill and respect.

To many people think the Beatles are talented. OK OK, no flaming. They used a very simple formula is all I'm saying. THat's ALL I'm saying.

you're kidding right?

I'm sure you think that Einstien's E=MC^2 formula was also pretty easy to come up with too.

Where's Eddie VanHalen?

A whiny bitch I agree, but a legend in his own right..

I used to LOVE Satriani's Surfing With The Alien, many good memories from that album..

Ever listen to Charlie Hunter? The guy plays an eight string guitar. Five regular strings with pickups, and three bass strings with a seperate pickup. There are two outs on the guitar so he's plugged into two different amps. He plays both the bass and guitar parts himself. He plays mainly jazz, so it might not appeal to those that like Steve Via, etc. Not saying those guys are bad, just that it's a different style of music. Anyway, he's pretty cool to see live. He sits in a chair, finds the groove, and runs with it. And, he plays with the best in the buisness when it come to new jazz (Stanton Moore, Skerik, Robert Walter, etc.).
