Joe Manchin tries to gift the Senate to GOP

We all know the GOP will win all 39593 senate seats next year.

All jokes aside, I live here, and the general state wide attitude towards Democrats/liberals is very hostile.

Tim Ryan basically ran a perfect campaign and positioned himself as a moderate Dem looking out for working class issues and he lost handily. Trump carried Ohio easily twice.

Ohio is deep red these days. Issue 1 (abortion) DID pass because the previous law was very unpopular and we have seen other red states also vote to try to protect abortion access. Doesn't change the overall politics of the state.

Good and FUCK JOE MANCHIN

From what I've been reading, quite a while ago the Dems pretty much concluded WV was lost, whether or not Manchin decided to run again.

I would not count Sherrod Brown out. He's scrappy, well known nationally and well known throughout Ohio. Ohio's red is more of a financially conservative red versus a MAGA red. Brown will probably be facing a tight race but it is certainly doable-by him with enough support.

I don't think Manchin will get far with this. Losing a Senate seat is always bad, but what are you going to do? It's West Virginia. If they aren't smart enough to ditch the swamp and embrace someone with 21st century solutions, then I guess their poor red state backwater status can marinate for another generation or two. It's not going to stop what is already in motion elsewhere.

He can try to split the vote if he wants, like Kennedy I suppose, I just don't think GenZ and most informed people are going to fall for it. If others do, it will because they're looking for a more appetizing and legal alternative to insurrectionist Mango Mussolini and his 91 felonies, so that benefits Biden.

Why get way too complex with partitioning Cali? Soon as they have the Congress to do it, just make D.C. a state like it deserves to be. I'm open to some consolidation as well, some merging of states since certain West Coasters are so cool with it. For instance, two Dakotas is completely unnecessary.

WV where they love nature so much they vote for people who enable mountain top removal mining and the mass pollution of groundwater and rivers to keep coal alive.

Until I see some polling I'm not sure if a potential Manchin candidacy hurts Trump or hurts Biden.

Why we need two Carolinas as well is beyond me.

California could be broken up in 3 states fairly reasonably but agree just add DC and Puerto Rico/guam/Samoa (as one state) and call it a day.

Democrats can keep this seat, Zachary Shrewsbury is the alpha male Fetterman-type Democrat without the health issues, hopefully that can keep the seat.

This ^. The population here (I live in WV) is remarkably stupid and perpetually stuck in the past. Perfect recipe for Trump/MAGA voters. If you're a politician, you basically only have to be pro-coal and against anything progress related and you'll get overwhelming margins.

Even funnier is that the current coal related employment is only something like ~10k. Which is about half of the # that work for one of our hospital systems.

We're a fucking stupid state.

Romney says he is not running for President so there goes that part of the No Labels fever dream. Manchin would not be able to raise substantial money or get even like a dozen people to show up for him, unlikely to happen once he starts testing the waters and finds them frigid. Best to retire with his somewhat ill gotten gains.
