Somewhere out there, five people will cry themselves to sleep.

But only five.

Yes so I heard on tonight news. Face the facts, Joe Lieberman is very old now, and trying for another six year term 2 years from now would not be very smart on his part. Running forever is somewhat the game reserved for only very popular Senators like Senator Byrd or Strom Thurmon.

Why end your Senate career with a defeat when you can retire undefeated? As it is Lieberman would have lost in 2006 if the Republicans had not run a patsy. As it is, Lieberman stands zero chance in 2012. And besides, Lieberman may have had some democratic cred in 2004 when he was a giant fan of the Iraq war, but ole Joe bet his political life on the wrong horse.

In short, Joe Lieberman is just a dead man walking. Worse yet, everyone knows it. But once more into the breech Horatio, the old lions ego needs another pet or two. Another 15 minutes of fame before the inevitable deluge.

Dare we hope, ole Joe will wait 2 more years in vain waiting for some fool to urge him to run again?

Joe is okay, pretty balanced but I guess that has no place in Washington these days.

The fact that John McCain is another political dead man walking should be the subject of another thread.

Even as a dimocrat I have a bit more respect for McCain than Lieberman. But my combined respect for Lieberman and McCain would not amount to more than a warm pitcher of spit.

My guess is Joe will end up with a cushy job at a health insurance company to cash in on his work representing them in the Senate and killing the public option.

Meh, sad to see him go even if I didn't agree with him half the time. He was a major thorn in the side of both parties, which is something I can appreciate.

Or a lobbyist for the insurance industry. He was a major player in fucking up the public option.

what pisses me off is Liberman and Blanche Lincoln were instrumental in dropping it and they are both NOT GOING TO BE THERE next election anyways...

Very old?? He's eleven years older than me (he's 68). Thanks a bunch.

And I actually liked the GOP candidate, but he carried a lot of baggage and was basically disinherited by the GOP establishment here. In effect the GOP and much of its machine actively supported Lieberman in 2008 which enabled him to win.

As an update, this is being more widely reported now. Already two GOP billionaires (Linda McMahon of WWF fame and Tom Foley, a corporate raider) have either announced they will run or is highly likely. Unless one of our current Congressmen decide to run for the seat, they would be facing a weak Democratic candidate.

Other Senators will be retiring also.
Age, wisdom or tired of the political infighting.
