Joe Dimaggio the fraudster?

interesting story...and really sad if true

<< Money was what DiMaggio cared about most of all. He knew both his value and his price, and he always suspected strangers of trying to rip him off. His signature on a baseball was worth hundreds and he exploited it to his dying day. He sold some of his trophies, then pretended they had been stolen, so the Yankees would give him a fresh set.

yeah he was known to be greedy with money, but if little kids came up to him. he would almost always sign for free, he had a heart for them.

Why would someone publish something so scathing as that book appears to be after somoneone's death? Hard to defend yourself then I guess.

Joe D. charged for autographs, etc., and he is labeled greedy.

Yet today's grossly overpaid athletes do the same or worse, and they are revered.

Rubbish!

Midnight Rambler,

Do the atheletes of today sell their championship rings and then pretend they
were stolen so that the team gives them new rings?

it seems that's what Joe did according to the book

I could write a book saying you burned down your house on purpose to get insurance money, but said someone else burned it down. But is it true?

if Joe D were still alive today, he would have probably been on the Hotdeals
forum on this board...and then he would try to sue Egghead for the
RAM that they would owe him....

Oh yeah...he would also probably be scouring for Staples codes
