Joe Biden is going after the Olberman fan club vote it seems

I guess this is a desperate sign for attention by an also ran.
I know a lot of people on here are going to agree with what he said, but I don?t think we want a President who behaves in this manner.
Just not fitting with the position he is seeking.
Shows a lack of character and judgment.

Joseph Biden, the Delaware Democrat running for president, is a man of strong opinions. During a campaign event in a Des Moines backyard today, Mr. Biden had some choice words for President Bush and two of the Republicans running for the White House.
?This guy is brain dead,? Mr. Biden said to surprised applause and laughter from the crowd. ?I know I?ll be quoted, I?ll be killed for that.?
?This is a guy who is on the balls of his heels, here?s a guy who is lower off in the polls than any president in modern history and he goes ahead and he does something that just flies in the face of the sensibilities of the American people.?
A few minutes later, Mr. Biden turned his sights on Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, and a Republican running for president. ?I can hardly wait to debate Rudy Giuliani if he is their nominee,? he said. ?Because I will eat his lunch. The next time I hear a Republican talk about us being tough on terror ? give me a break!?
Finally, Mr. Biden?s target was Mitt Romney, the Massachusetts Republican running for president. ?I found Romney?s statements yesterday profound ? crazy ? when he talked about going to war with Iran,? he said. ?Why are we talking about going to war with Iran??

Bush doesn't seem like the brightest bulb, but he was apparently devious enough to get us into a war by lying to the American public. He also apparently systematically infringed upon the American public's rights with the PATRIOT Act and the wiretaps. Some even believe that he orchestrated 9/11. I'd hate to imagine what people swindled so easily by a "brain dead" person could be construed as.

People need to make up their minds. He is either an evil mastermind, or he is stupid. He can't be both.

Who is the puppet and who is the puppeteer? The Puppet is an moron....

Look to my sig for further clarification on how a moron fits into the scheme of things.

No Yankees fan---he is a little bit of both---but don't ever call him a mastermind---GWB bungles everything he touches because he can't implement what he plans. And in the final analysis--he is more of a evil bully---and doubly dangerous now because his rein of terror is finally ending as even the GOP is ready to pull their support.

Soon GWB is finally gonna put it on the line---and is likely to lose a few key political contests---so he is talking tough to over compensate. But right now--GWB needs some results.
And positive initial results are what masterminds have and GWB can't ever seem to ever muster. And now GWB&co. seems to be running out of time---finally.

Well ProfJohn, we're aware that you and your ilk are unfamiliar with the idea of honesty in the office so we all understand why you think his statements were "unpresidential". I look forward to him "eating Guiliani's lunch", but Biden has been unimpressive to me thus far.

Take a good look folks this is exactly why we are in the situation we are in - where telling the truth is "selling out".

I take this to mean you don't want Bush as your president either, because he certainly doesn't sound 'presidential' and I won't even go into his character and judgment.

I agree this doesn't sound 'typically presidential' but a part of me wants to have 'real' people in office (not just as president') and not these perfectly programmed robots.

Yeah, cause we've never heard that about any republican here have we? 😕

I actually agree that these remarks are unpresidential, but certainly no more so than any of the literally hundreds and hundreds of stupid things President Bush has said over the years. In that sense this is an absurd topic, but then again we have to consider the source - there is no more slavering partisan on this board.

Biden's remarks are, IMO, largely redeemed by the fact that everything he has said is 100% true. At this point we are more than six years into one of the most incompetent, corrupt administrations in history, and I don't think the world will come to an end if Joe Biden points that out.

Hear, hear.

Anyone who says Biden made this remark in a calculated manner hasn't been paying attention to Biden for the last few, oh, decades. The man is known as verbose and has a knack for saying things that get him in trouble. Remember the "Obama is clean" remark?

I recall seeing him on Bill Maher last year and was simultaneously impressed with his candor while feeling discomfort considering him as our nations top diplomat. I think a president should have a better brain-to-mouth filter. Yes, prior (and current) presidents have made some ridiculous statements, but Biden has a record for saying things that are perceived as insenstive or offensive at inopportune times. He constantly acknowledges its something he needs to work on.

As for the statement currently at issue, many have called Bush a war criminal, though perhaps none of the presidential hopefuls. It's a bit of a shock to see someone utter what you are thinking though. We could certainly do worse for president, but I think there are better options out there as well.

I dislike people who think they are smart and run others down for being not as smart as they. Naturally I developed this distaste because it hate myself. I think I am smart but was told over and over I'm stupid so now intellect is very sacred to me. I am smart but was made to feel stupid so I have an unconscious need to run others down. Biden is just like me so naturally I hate him.

Also, there is nothing that galls geniuses like me more than to see some stupid moron like Bush succeed so well at being a fool. I have to invent a thousand excuses for how that state of affairs came to be. It's not what you know but who you blow, etc etc etc. I guess dumb people like Bush already figured that out and I just have too much false pride to be dumb and a winner.

But regardless, nobody should be calling others dumb. We are all total nobodies, or created in the image of God. Either way, it's ego that wants to label others in a way that creates personal advantage. It's not something done by people who love.

Oh, that's important because without love life is meaningless.

People are constantly demanding the sort of behavior Biden did, and he's giving it to them, but many people then realize maybe they don't really want it.

The public demands junk like this - especially the 'cowboy' image manufactured for Reagan and GWB, the guy who bought a ranch just before the 2000 campaign for 'show'.

I think your post is right on, though. I feel the same way about Biden you do. We try to look at policies and speaking separately, but his speaking is disconcerting to me too.

He reminds me a bit of the 'Bulworth' candidacy, if you remember that Warren Beaty movie.

I don't think we would want a flip flopper(Romney), or an adulter(Giuliani) as our president either.

Its all part of a national disease. We want a little sentence sound byte to sum up a complex issue so we don't have to think about the problem or address the issue in an honest manner. Democrats do it, republicans do it, but lately the sin is mainly republican and the resultant damage comes from the policies of GWB&co. So we do have to somewhat separate the sin from the damage the sin causes. Its the latter point that gets expensive.

But trust a forum troll like non-Prof John to trot out every petty sound byte used by democrats while ignoring the same sins from republicans. Even though I have almost zero respect for Biden, what he said is essentially 100% true. What wrong with being honest? But proving someone else is an idiot does nothing to elevate the intellect or character
of the person doing the mud slinging. We need solutions to complex problems and sound bytes by in large are the enemies of honesty.

Bush may not be technically brain dead, but it's hard to dispute the charge from his actions.
Giuliani's anti-terror resume is his failure to terminally embarrass himself in the days following the Trade Center attacks. I recall no way in which he did anything to "fight terrorists", despite his tough talk since. No matter how many times he says it, I can't believe we will all die if he's not elected president.
Romney's bellicose statements about Iran are crazy.

Given the above, I fail to see the basis for your criticism of Senator Biden. At times like these, he seems refreshingly Trumanesque.

You know there is a correlation between Bushes stupidity and the Pretzel choking incident. Maybe the oxygen supply was cut off from his brain for too long and he did suffer brain damage. Hey it's possible and we have some history of incapacitated men as President. The last was Reagan who was suffering from Alzhiemers during the second term of his Presidency. He was so bad off his wife and her astrologer ran the country for the last 2 1/2 years of his Presidency (which actually were the two best years of his Presidency)

Biden has always told it like it is. And I would LOVE to see him as the democratic nominee. But it'll never, ever happen. Biden is too... Biden.

Biden knows he doesn't have a prayer of being the nominee, so he gets to say what he wants, what's on everybody's mind anyway, stir the pot.

Bush might as well be brain dead, given that Cheney et al limit his choices to what they want, anyway- a cardboard cutout would function just as well for their purposes...

Romney obviously listens to too much talk radio, actually believes it, and Giuliani ... who knows? He'll do whatever he's told, like Bush, so Ill rate him as the likely Repub nominee...

Clemency for Libby was inevitable, simply because the consequences of putting him in the position where rolling over became an attractive option were entirely unacceptable... G Gordon Liddy, he ain't....

Are you on shrooms or something? That was an interesting post, but I am having trouble pulling the strings of it together to find the point.
