and magic the gathering!

winn4r! everyone made fun of the Magic kids, even the rest of us nerds.

I guess I'll come in and wave my epenis around 😀

Basketball (starting), football (starting), track (went to state sohpmore and Junior year placed in the top 7, finshed 3rd in state senior year:cool😉

Though I'm not much of a nerd, I would say I am about 90% jock 10% nerd.

i did sports in highschool throughout, but i sucked at most of them, lol.
i stayed in pretty decent shape in the later years of highschool though, and worked out a lot.

and of course spent a lot of time being a computer geek 🙂

I don't get US high schools. Why is there such a big divide between these so called groups?

When I was in high school, all the team sports players were also hardworking kids who liked to play computer games as well.
There were the card game geeks but some of those were also very athletic and outgoing.

It just seems like the dichotomy is huge in the US.

Not a whole variety of sports, but I played varsity basketball for 3 years at a top 5A program in Texas, and was a nerd at the same time.

I'm half and half, or pretty close. I'll play any sport, any time. I play sports a lot, a wide variety. Football, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Racquetball (my fav), Baseball, and many others. On the other hand I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to computers/video games. I play video games a lot. I also watch anime frequently, and i post here at Anandtech and many other tech forums. So that's both sides of me.

Cean - interesting - is that pronounced like "Shawn"?

I was a good swimmer in HS (placed 6th in state in one event), but I was 6'0", 130lb until I gained 40 pounds my freshman year in college. So I lacked the size and strength for many sports. Now I'm a pretty good tennis player but I've never been super athletic.

yars...soccer, volleyball, badminton, baseball, all of it. and still manage to play some vid games almost right after school. AND still be able to mantain good grades 🙂

i did shot put & discus in HS.

<-- combined powerlifting & an MS in computer science to form a nerd who was never hassled.

There is actually not a very big divide.

Its just that shows and movies show there is. but in reality there really is not. Granted there are thos that fit the what they show on TV but not many (at least when i was in school). Sure you had your sterotypical jock and nerd. but nowhere near they show

I wasn't a jock in highschool, although I did play a lot of sports outside of school, but mostly though highschool I smoked a lot of pot and played guitar and trained in bullshido martial arts (think point sparing and 'too deadly to fight' martial arts). Now however, I am a computer programmer/unix and linux guru and a amature mixed martial arts fighter (judo/carlson gracie jiujutsu with a little (very little) touch of kickboxing) I also train in aikido to keep my geekness in check (mostly for streatching, falling, and timing) and yoga.

I was wondering if there are any more nerd/jock hybrids on AT like me 🙂
Played football, basketball, and soccer all through highschool and played first string on all of em. Senior year of football played starting tight end and starting d-line (DEFENSE BITCH! bout 55 tackles and 7 touchdowns) scored hell of a lot in b-ball lol and scored couple goals in soccer. through it all i stayed dedicated to gaming as much as i could (SWG mainly, eewwww) and there were a couple guys on the team that did this same thing. Just wonderin if there is anyone else out there thats breakin the social norms 😉 dated the head cheerleader 2 hehe.

lemme know

Morgash

*EDIT* i did NOT pick on anyone in high school. just not something i found amusing. Of course i didnt get picked on myself (6'0 210lbs, and jujitsu 🙂 and i made it a point to not allow any physical harm to come to those with just the nerd part hehe. Now of course i did do the OLD tradition of making the younger players do all the S**T work on the football team when i was a senior, but that was expected and everyone has to do it. Course my grade didnt ever do it cuz we were always bigger and stronger than the older guys lol. I was also REALLY into the hardware side of comps, as i am even more so now(sophomore in EE). Love to push hardware to the max (like my Radeon 7200 LE 32mb runnin at 550/175 lol)

You sound like a nice jock, not a nerd. Nerd got picked on.

I was athletic as a kid, but I was also quite awkward and nerdy. No big deal. I didn't care for labels.

**EDIT**

I AM athletic, but I AM also quite awkward and nerdy.

Played Football/Ran Track/Wrestled/Marched Snare in high school....

On the Rowing Team in college

Worked with computers professionally since I was 17. I'm more of a geek/jock

Starting shooting guard in HS, starting central defender on soccer team, captain of the badminton team, organizer of the Ultimate Frisbee league ... now I play a lot of squash, basketball, golf ... and I'm 12 years out of HS, but I've always fit the half/half profile.
