I'll be graduating in may, and I'm well aware the economy is in the sh*tter. I may have a conneciton to get a job at a major corporation, but I dont want to count on it.

It pretty much a given that if you want to do anything in the psych field, you need a masters or phd, so that is pretty much out. Besides, last time I heard 50% of american college grads are psych majors, so someone has to be hiring them.

There are a lot of majors with jobs directly attributable to jobs, CS majors become programmers, chem majors become chemical engineers and what not, bio majors work in research or become doctors/pharmacists etc...

But am I right in thinking that theres a boatload of jobs (maybe not openings right now, but jobs) for just general college grads. Ie office jobs, management, etc? My friend's dad works for the IRS doing god knows what, but he is a psych major, and didnt have any problems getting the job due to his degree or anything.

So am I crazy in thinking that theres actually well paying jobs existing for psych, or other majors, or will I be mopping floors for the rest of my life?

Anything that involves working with people is game, simply because after you get your degree you have a very good understanding of how people work.
I've seen psych majors in HR, Insurance, Sales, management, etc.

Some girl I know with her degree took it to a restaurant and was a cashier. Another girl got a job through her dad at a banking/financial corporation, so that worked out well. Personally I took my psych degree and got some crash course in IT and have since been working in that area. Although CS and a few other select degrees lead straight to jobs the vast majority of degrees do not, so it's not as if you're in an especially useless category. You merely have to do what everyone else is doing with their english, history, art, etc.

Yea, it's true that your degree wont take you far, but if you really think about it, most 4-year degrees are the same way these days. Without a masters in any field, you have a significantly diminished chance of advancement unless you are self-employed. So, I would suggest you start looking at graduate programs in the area you want to get into..

I dont buy the fact that you need to go to graduate school to survive. Hell, you dont even need to go to college to survive. I'm not really aiming to make 80k a year by the time I'm 30 or anything, and I dont think I'd ever care if I never made 80k (inflation adjusted of course). Just want to be comfy making some decent cash. Grad school isnt my thing, and to be perfectly honest, I cant afford it right now. I can barely afford undergrad. If I were to go grad school, it wouldnt be immed out of undergrad.

So what is everyone else doing with their degrees? I know theres a million ways to make money, but how to get hooked up into those jobs as a college grad?
