Why are so many employers evasive about the pay offered for the position?
I've been through a few interviews now where the pay rate isn't stated anywhere on the app form, isn't stated by the recruiter when they call, isn't stated on the position request, then after an hour of interviewing find out that the job pays way less than what I'm currently making and just wasted a bunch of my time.
I wish they would just be up front about the pay range so that I could just skip over the crappy paying jobs, instead of wasting time for both their HR, their recruiter, and me, with several hours vested each time. Also several times I've gone through an interview, only to find out that they didn't extend an offer because I was making over X amount already. For example I interviewed with a friend's company, the recruiter never mentioned what the position was paying even after an hour long phone interview, then when they ask how much I'm currently making they say they'll get back to me and never do, only to find out later that they considered me to be making too much to take a pay cut to go somewhere.
Maybe I wouldn't mind a small pay cut in some circumstances if the benefits are good enough. The games recruiters and HR play make my head spin sometimes. It especially aggravates me that some recruiters will lie about the job pay for the job pay rate fields on some of the job hunt sites just to get past the filter people put on there when searching.
/end rant
tl;dr: recruiters suck
