Job scam or just spam?

I got this email a few days ago, but didn't see it until today because it was in my spam filter.
It came through careerbuilder.com, where I do in fact have a resume uploaded.

Hello. My name is John Doe, and I am a Partner with New York Life in City, Pennsylvania. New York Life is a Fortune 100 Company, which has been in business for 163 years. Our firm is searching for qualified candidates whose background, desires and qualifications match up with an opportunity as a Financial Services Professional with New York Life and NYLIFE Securities. Upon review of your resume, I feel that you may be a good match for our company.

The company appears to be legit and they do have an office at the location and address they listed.

The part that is throwing me off is that I have no financial experience so I don't know why they think I would be a good candidate for a Financial Services Professional, unless this is just like some kind of customer service position.

Anyone know anything about this company or the position? I'm going to email the person who sent it and see if I can find out exactly what it is.

I used to get those all the time. Don't bother with them. Monster and Careerbuilder will spam you for finance positions all the time.

It's probably just a sales position - wanna sell life insurance? 😀

ding, winner

i interviewed for such a job back in the day, they were so good, they almost talked me into it

they sent me another email that says this:

The Financial Services position does not require a financial background. It requires that we are good with people. The position combines the attributes of an insurance agent, private banker, investment advisor and stockbroker where you work with clients to help them reach their financial goals.

so is this like telemarketing or what??

They want you to sell high-load, high-commission annuities, and pass them off as "investment" or "retirement" vehicles, which they are NOT. You will need a life/health license to sell them. They will not pay for you to get said license.

I interviewed for Ameriprise (when it was American Express Financial) and AXA financial back in 2004. With Ameriprise you basically start selling your family then friends then eventually door to door. You know those business card fishbowls at restaurants where you get a free meal? It's basically a very hard sell for their "financial advisory" services which is basically selling their rip off mutual funds and insurance products.

The AXA interview was more interesting. He gave me a phone book and he told me my life would consist of calling every name in it one by one.

They want you to go door to door selling life insurance. DO NOT WANT!

They want your hot leads (friends and family) on life insurance...they will usually be laughing to the bank if you end up door to door.

IF YOU EVER TAKE A JOB LIKE THIS DO NOT FALL FOR WE NEED TO SEE HOW YOU SELL TO YOUR 'FRIENDS/FAMILY' FIRST PRIOR TO BRINGING YOU ON FOR THE FULL COMMISSION SCALE!

That said, I know 2 dudes that have made a small fortune selling life insurance and the other bullshit with it....it'd the big downside anytime we all get together.

So alkemyst, how are you doing in the event you die prematurely leaving your concubines behind?
