Take it. It's a real job, compared to the campus one, which doesn't really count in the real world.

How so? Please explain. I'm working for one the biggest IT departments here on campus.

Employers still just see it as a student job. It just doesn't hold the same weight as working for an outside company.

Excellent opportunity.

The bump in pay compensates the gas/driving.

Clearance be it Confidential, Secret, Top Secret or variants thereof are good Resume Bullets and aren't easy to come by. It's not that they're hard to qualify for, but that there are not a lot of opportunities in which a person can obtain one.

The experience opportunity compared to your current position is a forward move.

Considering the criteria you've mentioned, your current financial obligations, age and career position I'd say it's an opportunity which you should seriously weigh in on.

Very likely you won't have an opportunity like it again (and the $15.00 is starting intern salary - that's exceptional for internship. Full time status + benefits should be well worthwhile).

Good for you!

It is if the person doing it thinks so. It's certainly something to think about when considering a job offer. In this case I'd have to agree with most everyone else and say take it.

It's not a long commute, it's the point being that that 45 minutes could be spent making money; so I look at it as lost wages.

Ahh, the plight of the hourly employee.

TAKE THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111one

There is no reason not too, its a great opportunity and a chance at a good job when you graduate. Take the job, try to get your classes on two days a week if possible. That would be my suggestion.

Most likey a good move to take it. How many days/week and hours/week do your work now? And would the new job be a comparable amount? If not, would it be more or less?

still in school ? Hmm... tough call, but so long as you can finish elsewhere and you have nobody tying you down (gf/family)... I wouldn't hesitate too much at this.

Even if they don't pay you for your commute and if total driving time is 2 hrs (to compensate for those times you're stuck in traffic, etc) you only have to work 4 hours to break even for that day. And that's just addressing your concern over lost wages from commuting. This new job offers security clearance, a promise of a full time job after graduation, and experience with systems not available on the college networks. Doesn't sound like a hard choice to me.

Since they're paying milage, you're really only looking at the commute time. It sounds like an excellent opportunity.

Hahha....about the tying down part, search for what I've posted in the past week or two. You'll see why I'm laughing. :D

Btw, I'm taking four classes in Fall. I'll be able to work about 28 hours a week.

yes, you should take it. if you have a clearance, you have a job for life. if they're really giving you top secret, you can take that to another company and be paid a lot more
