This is the 3rd I've had (2 for smaller local companies, offered both jobs, but had to deny for personal reasons).

I'm 18 and moving to college in 2 months FWIW.

This interview is for a large corporation and was wondering if anyone had tips on how to stick out from the rest?

Also, if the interviewer asks if I will be leaving for college, how should I answer? Will I be denied the job for the simple fact that I'll be moving?

Why would anyone who wasn't looking to fill a position for a part time temp job hire you knowing you're leaving in a couple of months?

Answer truthfully.
Prepare not to get the job.

Don't apply for long term perm jobs when you know you'll be leaving. Go find temp work.

I'd be interested in hearing why you're applying for permanent positions knowing that you're moving in two months. You were already offered two jobs that you declined to take for personal reasons; are those personal reasons still there?

The pay was under 100k right? I would turn that down too.

I have to say, even if it's a small company, I would join them just for the experience alone, it will pay off in the long run.

If you are leaving for college next month, why bother? Look for a part time internship instead.

Actually, on both occasions I was offered $12 and $15 an hour to start, and when they offered the job, they took it down to minimum wage because I was 17. I told both of them to shove it up their asses ;)

No company will want to hire someone for 2 months. Especially when it takes nearly a month for training in many cases.

I'd tell you to shove off if you interviewed with me.

If you don't tell them, you're an asshole and I wouldn't ever count on that company giving you any sort of reference.

I thought you were 18 or 19 now.

Anyway, you're fail either way bro.

You're like that guy with the old shitcar that posted on here about winning over some ricer's girlfriend when he sorta-passed the ricer.

What I am trying to say is, you're a boatload of fail.

Uh... come again? Since when do I want one? The last time I complained about not getting a job was in the beginning of 2009 (midst the beginnings of a recession so I remember?), and I don't want one now because I have income. :hmm:

Uhh where are you going to college?

Being offered 2 tech support positions by the age of 17 is something I would consider an accomplishment.

BTW, I love my ricer ;).

Anyway, get in to a college like UW, then post in threads saying who's fail ;)

EDIT: TridenT, I'm sure you wont post here again because you don't wanna tell anyone of the community college you're going to.
Do it and you'll be banned immediately afterward. The rules prohibit posting personal info. -DrPizza

It doesn't even matter what community college he's going to. All community colleges are fail if you're over 18 years old. Most colleges have so dramatically cut back their transfer enrollment that you have to pretty much have a 4.0 anyways to get in with a transfer.

Fail students are fail.

I find it suspicious that any of those establishments were really "offering" that job. Around where I am, you don't get a job even in tech support unless you've already had a job in tech support for a few years. (They throw away your resume if you don't) Considering you've never even had a job and your knowledge of general computer know-how demonstrated on here(abysmal at best), I would say that your likeliness of getting "offers" on those said jobs is based on luck or family/friend connections.

I think that varies widely on what college you're talking about. At least around here they still accept many people in the 3.0GPA range and above as transfers. You're much more likely to get in if you have a higher GPA obviously. I know UW supposedly doesn't automatically rule anyone out based on GPA. They say they make some kind of accumulative type assessment based upon all kinds of factors. (FYI, average or median (I forgot which) transfer GPA is 3.44 for them)

You aren't serious are you? Apparently the high school system has failed America's youth.

What you talkin' about? This kid must be private school shit. Look at how fucking awesome he is. I bet he went to Styuvesant High School and is now enrolled in MIT's most prestigious and rigorous mathematics and physics program as a double major.

Believe all you want good sir, but I live up here and know tens of people who expected to be able to transfer right in with a community college AA, even with schools that are partner schools to UW - Tacoma and UW - Seattle, and they have had no such luck. Coming in as an out of state may help you, as it is a little different, but is still very difficult.

The school I go to - California Polytechnic , San Luis Obispo has had to turn kids away by the thousands that were promised by their community college counselors that if they got an AA they would be a shoo in to transfer to the school, even in un-impacted majors.

Unfortunately that time is past us, almost all public schools are very difficult to get into now with a transfer.
