I work for a state government, and although the pay is slightly lower, the 37.5 hours a week that I work makes up for it. There is virtually no overtime and I am able to do things I did not have the opportunity to do working for private industry. I actually was able to have enought time off to coach my daughters baseball team.

Now if your single, that time is not as important and you may want to bust your ass while there are no wife and kids. That way later down the road you may have the cushier job. But don't get addicted to the extra $$$. For most people there is a payoff between timve versus money.

I countered but he stated "Well, it's an extra $9k on top of what you're making now."
I understand no corporation would give 8 weeks vacation, but he doesnt understand that
I'm currently underpaid as it is!

He's seen my resume so why try to lowball me? If i was in a corporation I dont know what I would be making. I administer 10 servers along with 100+ desktops. We're rolling out wireless and I got 2-3 projects that need to be done in a month. Stress? Yes, but it's actually fun and I'm learning a lot.

So, the extra $500 isnt worth it. I'll just work at this nice job and do my real estate investment on the side.

All network/IT positions are going to bend you over and.... you get the idea. Go for the dough or for which ever position gives you less stress.

What is the normal rate of growth in your field? I don't know if I'm considered to be in your field (Web Programmer) but I started out at 33k and a year later I'm at 37.5k. Working for a public university. Is this normal growth?
