I am a resident assistant (RA) at my college. This semester is my first time doing this so I am still learning the ins and outs of the job. This semester has been the most stressful and accademicly intense one yet, with many hours a night (5-6) spent on homework and studying. I took this job because I thought I would be good at it, I thought it would help prepare me for a career, I thought it would look good on a resume, and it paid for my room and board.
The first week I was here the RA below me (floors alternate boy girl boy girl) started hitting on me and was VERY persistant. I didnt let anything happen with her and infact sat her down and told her that nothing ever would happen because I have a girlfriend who I love very much. She didnt like this too much and basically broke off our friendship completely after the first month and a half. I still thought of her as a friend and kept being nice to her and what not.
Well a few weeks ago we had some kind of day long continuing education deal on a saturday. I was kind of excited to go because I figured it would better prepare me for incidents in my hall. I even took a pen and paper to take notes on. This thing was the most pointless thing I ahve ever been to in my life. I fealt it was a large waste of my time and endedup skipping the last half of it. My supervisor never foundout about this and I just never brought it up.
Well fast foreward to tonight. The girl asks if I wanna grab dinner (which was weird because we hadnt hungout for about a month) and I say sure. She shows up with her friend (another RA) and we eat. When we are done she goes "TheoPetro can I tell you something and you promise not to get mad?" She then proceeds to tell me how her and her friend went to my supervisor and told him how they think im bad at my job and how they think I should be watched more carefuly. I guess they had a big long discussion with him basically just badmouthing me. This was comming from someone I thought I could kind of trust. They also told me that my supervisor knows I skipped the second half of the inservice stuff (he wouldnt know if noone had told him).
Basically I am jsut kind of at a loss as to what to do. I have a meeting with him tomorrow and plan on bringing alot of this up. I really cant afford to lose my job and I havnt been "super RA" but my floor is the quietest one in the 2 buildings and everyone seems to get along and like me. I am not some powertrip jackass RA but if you break the rules I do have to write you up and they know and understand that.
Any ideas on how to deal with my supervisor tomorrow? Again I feel like I have been doing a decent job as an RA and DEFINITELY do not diserve to get fired, I just need him to see that.
Cliffs:
1) I am an RA
2) Very stressful semester accademicly
3) Girl RA likes me and I reject her
4) I skip half bullshit inservice
5) Someone tells supervisor I skipped
6) Girl who I rejected gets her friend and they go and badmouth me to my supervisor
7) Supervisor wants to have a meeting with me
8) How do I convince him I really am a good RA
Edit: I have a meeting in 15 for an hour and a half, Ill be back then to answer questions and whatnot.
UPDATE!
Welp I just had the meeting. He decided to spring it on me after the general staff meeting. Went to his office and he brought up the inservice first. He said that his first idea was to terminate me immeaditly because I skipped half of inservice. (I think thats bullshit but whatever) He then brought up what the other RA said which I told my version of the story. I put myself in a ****** position becuase I skipped half of inservice which discredits me. He basically put me on probation untill summer; which means if I screw up one more time I am fired. I guess I am ok with that because I still have my job but what the hell happens when 2 dumb bitches go to him again and complain about me. He said he thought I was doing a good job but there was a lot of evidence against me and he cant trust me anymore.
Basically I am increadably pissed at the two girls but thankful I kept my job. Guess all I can take from this is never to trust anyone you work with. Nomatter how friendly they seem or how cool they come across.
