I always tell the truth, "No, I've never been convicted, and yes, I have the best defense attorney money can buy."

Never. Answering honestly does you no good in this scenario and it wasn't a felony.

1) Answer no, go through the process, they find out, just say wow! I forgot about that! Likely hired
2) Answer yes, no chance of getting hired.

I made the mistake of being honest with questions like these and it got me fired.

This. NEVER NEVER NEVER answer yes to that question on ANY application. What's the worst they can do if they find out you lied? Not hire you? Big deal...you'd be back to where you are now.

Not that I have a record or anything of course. ;) I did have a minor possession charge when I was in my teens but I had a good lawyer and only had to serve a little community service and my record was expunged...that was over 20 years ago and I've never answered yes when asked if I have ever been convicted of a crime. Never had an issue with it.
